While reading through my latest issue of Racer X, I read Matthes' "The Bottom Line" where he became a mechanic for a TRUE privateer(Ozzy Barbaree) for a weekend at a national event. Several companies jumped on board and also helped the rider. I thought this was a great idea and thought Steve shouldn't have to pat himself on the back(he says that in the article jokingly), but the motocross community should. Personally, I'd like to see this happen again and maybe a little more detailed( longer) article. Not only did it give positive exposure to the rider, but also to the companies that helped out, Racer X for printing it and Matthes for having a great idea and the tenacity to follow through with it.

Discuss.

Steve is my favorite moto journalist. His humor is refreshing. Reminds me of reading the old Super Hunky Dirt Bike articles. Maybe Steve is the new Super Chunky. lol

Great moto journalist. He digs old school moto and he is very knowlegable about it. Hopefully he will teach these youngsters a thing or two in the years to come.

Other than the fact that he seems to be a fairy when it comes to Ferry, I think he is one of the best if not the best. Man love is a little GHEY though. Not that there is anything wrong with that.

Matthes is a real good guy, just don't let him get near your side panels.

I think it happens a lot more often than we know to riders trying to race at their local national. Shops and local sponsors throwing together deals so someone can try to make their dream a reality. They just don't have the media outlet to say lookie here.

At first I thought this thread was about Matthes being run over by a boat....
had visions of those prop struck manatee's in Fla.

Funny, I thought it was the lead-in to another Matthes weight joke.

I just thought what he did for a REAL privateer was great and I'd like to see this happen again, maybe during the SX series.
