Hi guys,
I need to show you this video. I think that I will try it. I have two DT1 filters. One is brand new and oiled by me with Motorex oil as he used in video. Second is dirt so I will clean them, try this method and compare these two filters if it will be good oiled after solvent evaporates.
I've use a similar method. I clean it with odorless mineral spirits, rinse it out with soap and water then distribute a slight amount of new mineral mineral spirits across the filter just enough to make it moist. Apply oil after that and my theory is that the solvent will help distribute and flash off some of the excess oil while allowing me to easily spread it and cover the whole filter.
I was try this method and if I was squeezing filter with some oil and water in it, only clean water comes out not as in video and I have same oil. But now I am checking filter it is oiled as much as need so maybe this method is good. Some people say oil only completely dry because foam can by damaged. Dont know why or if this rule is for not quality foam filters.
I clean my filters in gas and wring them out so I'm basically a heretic. On top of that, I oil them within a few hours of that (wringing them out once again) and the oil distributes through the filter very evenly and the next morning, or even a few hours later, they're perfect. Before installation I put a little ring around the filter base where it seats to the bike and I have not once found a single molecule of dirt in my airbox.
Twin air and Maxima ProFilter have never failed me. Belray and maxima fluids as well.
