Did a quick search and did not find much first time enduro information. I am signed up to do my first NEPG Enduro at the Black Buffalo National. I have been to this awesome location before for Buffalo Riders Extreme. I usually race harescrambles but am brand new to enduros. Does anyone have any good information or tips they would share for a first time enduro event. I understand you are timed/scored based one your test sections, other than that I am pretty clueless. Any information would be greatly appreciated!

There are multiple types of enduros: sprint, restart or reliability. Which one is this race?

First of all, you're going to have a blast! The NEPG is a well ran series full of great people. I have only done one National myself, but my 14 year old son is doing the Enduro Futures class for the second year in a row. We have only paid a gate fee at one event, it's normally included in your race registration fee. If you don't already have one, you will have to buy a LiveLaps transponder during sign-up, most people put them under your helmet visor. You will get a route sheet that is a little hard to understand at first, but most everyone from the staff to the racers are all extremely helpful and will answer any questions you have. Be sure to go to the riders meeting, normally at 8:15am race day. There will normally be 3-6 riders on your row with you so you will take off at each section with the same guys all day. The racers usually follow the finishing order from each section to determine the start order on the following sections. In other words, if you finish 3rd on your row on section 1, you should go into the woods 3rd on section 2. We typically have anywhere from 10-25 minutes between sections to grab a drink or snack, or work on your bike. If you're going alone, there will be trailer to put your fuel can that the staff will have at the designated gas stop. If someone is going with you, they can drive your vehicle to the end of each section and meet you there. That is what I do with my son. If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask.

Thank you for all the info! I have already pre-registered so sounds like I will just need a new transponder come race day/pay gate fee. As far as the route sheet, what all does that entail? I think it shows the test starts/distances correct? I often times see people with notes on their bar pad in reference to the route sheet? Hopefully I can get a decent start row since I pre-registered.

No problem! Yes, the route sheet has distance covered and start time for each section. Each start time is based off of key time, which is 9:00am. Sometimes there will be a short transfer section to the start of section 1, but let's pretend that section 1 starts at key time. You should have been given your row number at sign up. We'll pretend you got row 41X. If you are on row 41, you will take off at 9:41am at checkpoint 1. So each start time of each section on the route sheet, you would add 41 minutes to that time and that will give you row 41 start time for each section. That is what you see people putting on their bar pad, the actual time they need to be at each checkpoint. There will also be a digital screen at each checkpoint that will tell you when to take off. So when you see 40 on the digital screen, you will have one minute before your row takes off.
