I was wondering how Kyle Regal was doing after he landed on one of the stakes that holds up the banners? I read it in Observations "Scary moment for the kid Kyle Regal “Beagle.” While up front in the first moto, Regal went down hard and impaled himself on a metal rod that was holding up banners. It was definitely a freak thing, as it lacerated his kidney and he had to be rushed to the hospital. All reports are that he would have to stay in ICU for a couple of days but would be fine otherwise. I promise you MX Sports will be investigating new ways to banner the tracks in the off-season."

I think they should find a different way to mount these banners. I watched the track crews at Steel City this past weekend going around and sawing off the top of the wooden stakes holding the banners. To me this is dangerous. If you land on those wrong you are in big trouble. And to me the banners restrict your view of the track and the riders. At some of the nationals I went to this year you can't tell what the track looks like because the banners are in the way.

Did he wear a chest protector? I think the stakes should not be mounted straight up, but angled in the track direction. Anyway, I hope he's OK. He was the most impressive rider all year to me.

He really impressed me too. It sucks to see his season end like that when he was going so good. Without landing on the stake he would have probably got up and finished.

Is there an official "Rider of the Year" award? I know the magazines have their own, but I'm not sure about the AMA. He got the rookie award, but the way he rode, he deserves even more. It's not that he got a good start and hung with the leaders, he came from behind and worked his way through the pack. He wasn't as fast, he was faster most of the time than tha factory riders. That deserves some credit for a unknown kid.

So why don't we put a bunch of spikes all angled away from the riders and just hope one of the other riders doesn't hit one and turn it around? After all, there just aren't enough other ways to get hurt in this sport.

A lot of these track injuries could be eliminated by just walking the track and using a little bit of common sense. How many flagger stands have a couple of hay bales in front of them? Why do the tracks use those big tractor tires at the first turn? What about a couple of hay bales in front of an irrigation head mounted on a four by four post? Why should the skid loader be parked beside the high speed straight?

This is the type of crap you see at tracks week in and week out. Most of it could be fixed for next to nothing.

Kyle tore his liver a bit, but will be fine. His sister said he didn't know if a chest protector would have helped or not because of the angle of entry, but caps on the stakes sure would have. He also said that if he hadn't crashed we wouldn't be talking about "If and buts". That's Kyle.

He's excited about getting ready for SX.

Kyle left the hospital Monday and is spending time up in Michigan with his family. From what he says he is not in any pain and should be riding within the month. He found out his liver is not as bad as they told him it was after going to a specialist and getting it reevaluated. He did not have a chest protector on, but he did have an under protector on. I posted this picture before on here but if you didn't see it here it is again.... Definitely a scary moment.

I have always thought those wood/metal stakes were an issue. I know the sponsor exposure is important but so are the lives of these men risking their lives out there. They don't need to have to worry about falling on sharp objects. They have enough to worry about. I wish you a speedy recovery Kyle and good luck in supercross. Your a bad ass

Kyle crashed on the first lap after getting rutted on the jump by the KTM Hospitality setup, he landed about 8-10 feet off of the track on a wooden stake. Kyle's team manager did talk to MX Sports and person in charge of the track that something needs to be done for the future like a possible rubber ball cap. Where he was impaled would not have been protected even if he had a chest protector on, now if he might have had a kidney belt on (yes I am old school) that might have helped.

Kyle did recieve the Lucas Oil-AMA-MX Sports 450 Rookie Of The Year Award.

Also congratulations to teammate Jimmy Albertson on 10th O/A in the series.

Good to hear his injury isn't that bad. Is he going to stick with Valli for SX? Seems like a good match.

Races in daylight, actually gets stronger/faster during the latter stages of the moto.

Survives impalement with a wooden stake.

After passing both tests, we have satisfactory proof that Kyle is not a vampire.
