Hi all,

Wondering what the general opinions on helmet replacement are without any crashes. How often do you replace them?
I have a Bell Carbon 9 stamped July 2013. I have never had a head crash, it looks in good condition less a bit less shine due toi the harsh Aust sun but the foam and overall conditions are mint.

Should I replace and buy a new one? I have tried a search on the vital forum, but most topics are for after a serious crash, not longevity.

Also, whilst i am here, which helmet offer the best air flow in addition to MIPS.

cheers guys

Most EPS Liners have a shelf life of roughly 2-3 years without any use. Small crashes over a this time can shorten it sooner, along with with with the way the helmet is stored (hot shed after a few months for example). If you havent had any big hits, i would say two years would be a safest bet for a helmets life span.

The manufacturers clearly don't agree since they are warrantying up to a 7 year shelf life stored properly.

After doing some more research for major mfgs you seem to be correct. My mistake! Maybe it was just a sale tactic instilled in me working at a dealer a few years back LOL

Ive always been a person to where one big hit in a helmet, be safe and get a new one. I guess with proper storage and no manor head hits you can get good life out of these helmets.
