I changed clutch packge, clutch plates/friction, new springs etc. Not Honda OEM, but DP Brakes clutch kit.
Everything installed fine, new oil, whole bike is in excellent condition with 50h on the clock, BUT, after changing the clutch 'kit' I notice now that shifting from first to second many times (at least 50% of times) gets me in neutral. Generally the feel is good, it's nice click sounds (when correct shifting occurs) etc, but when in first shifting to second many times a 'strong' pull of the shift lever will not get it into second but in neutral.
2-3-4 absolutely no problems, work flawlessly, also from third to second, but first to second is the issue.
Can I have done anything wrong? What can go wrong, I followed all instructions and it was very straight forward. Hmmm...
When putting the bike on the stand and shifting with my hand from 1 to 2nd, it does feel like an unusual long pull to get it to 2nd. I would claim (but could be wrong) that before a much shorter 'nudge' of the lever got it into second.
Any experience, ideas? Good advice? (as in title, it's a 2020 CRF250r)

1) I keep the shift lever up for a bit longer, seems like 2nd gear engages then
2) I don't use clutch at all
so, either it's in my head, but the way I shifted before, very quick pull of cluth lever and tiny blip on shift lever upwards produced the shift from first to second doesn't hold true any longer.
Could the above be due to different clutch platets/friction plates? I.e, they behave a bit differently?
So all in all, doesn't seem to be a big problem, but it's not like before at least.
Check that and break it in a little and see if it starts to feel better. Different clutches / setups will have a different feel (More grabby, etc).

Are there any other possible reasons for your changed perception of the shifting? Different brand of oil? New boots? Did you move the shifter?
Post a reply to: CRF250r '20 - new clutch - sketchy 1->2 shift. Why?
