I recently got a 2016 rmz250. I loved my 2014 rmz450 but sold it a few years ago. I instantly felt comfortable on the 250 just noticed the lack of bottom end power. Im used to riding in 3rd and 4th gear but had to ride a gear lower on the 250. Anyone have one and can give me some feedback on it? Recommendations?

I put a 270 kit in mine with in addition a pair of hot cams stage one. Lost a few rpms on very top but was a completely different bike. It was much easier to ride and actually had a useable bottom end.

no matter what you do you wont make a 250 perform like a 450. welcome to the 250 world. I have done the same over the years and i miss the bottom end feel of 450s, but i dont miss the heavy feel of the big bike.

I currently have a early model 350 and it lacks the bottom end power as well and i find myself searching ways to pick some up with all the usual techniques, but it still lacks.

Ive had a 250 with a 280 kit in it like mentioned above and its a good improvement but after awhile it seems the same.Ive geared my 350 down and it helps as well but no matter what you do you still want more.

the 250/350 bike is meant to be ridden differently and i accept that.

Yes. My last bike was a yz250f which had a 270 kit. It had a lot of worked motor parts. I had switched it back to the stock cylinder bc I didn't know what type of piston to buy. I didn't notice much of a difference.

I really enjoyed my ‘15 250, but it’s a completely different animal to a 450. It liked to be ridden in the midrange. Unlike most 250s, the power falls off as the RPMs near the peak, and lugging wasn’t an option. A yoshimura RS4 slip on surprisingly helped a bit, and it’d be my recommendation if you’re not doing a 270 kit. Don’t waste your money on a head pipe because they’re the same (just not ti). Honestly, just get the suspension dialed and enjoy it for what it is. If you really want more power, another bike is probably your best bet.
