I am nearing 200 hours on my 2017 450 ktm and I am thinking about buying a new bike. I saw all the shootouts and it seems like the 20 yamaha and kawi are always near the front (and would like a change from 4 years on a ktm). However I am not sure if this change will be a step up for me. For example my ktm is lighter and slimmer than yamaha and has much more power and better build quality than kawasaki. Did anyone went from 2017-2018 ktm to the new yamaha/kawi and what were your impressions?

You'd be better off just getting a new KTM. If you desire a change get a husky or gasgas since ktm makes both

The Yamaha is no joke. I recently debated this same decision and ended up w a husky 450 BC it was cheaper than the Yamaha. If the Yamaha was cheaper, as it should have been, I would have bought the Yamaha.

I rode the yz recently, it was very good.

Have you had any issues getting your 450 to 200 hours? Piston? Crank?

That is awesome. Just picked up my first 450. Haven’t even ridden it yet.

I went from a 17 450sxf to a 20 yz450fx and it was a great decision. I hated the air forks offroad even after factory connection did their thing on them. The Yamaha KYB suspension is awesome. The Yamaha has more power and less vibration. The Yamaha is more stable but not as nimble and the tuning app is great. The only negative I have for the Yamaha is sometimes it cranks a while before it starts when its hot.

i went from a 2016 and 2017 KTM 450SXF to a 2019 Kawi 450. I love the bike and have not had many issues at 60 hours. I also got a 2020 YZ450F towards the end of last year and i like that as well. Tough call between all three bikes for which is best. They all do certain things better than the other...…
I'd go with the Yamaha if i was splitting hairs. Not as maneuverable as the KTM or Kawi but easiest to have fun on. It jumps great and feels the safest.
