I’m breaking in my 2006 honda cr250 tomorrow with some minor porting, balanced crank, lectron carb, and a phathead +1 comp head. Aside from price is there any disadvantage to breaking the bike in on VP 110 fuel instead of 91 unleaded or even 50/50 vp/91? Just want to set it up best so what’s the cause and effect? Thanks!

Here’s the bike:

You should break it in with what ever fuel your motor is designed for... if it is 110 then run 110. Detonation during break Is is never a good thing!

Is it better to break it in on 110 than lower?

If your motor does not detonate on 91 run 91, if it is designed for 110 run 110. My KX250 is designed for C12 so I run C12 for break in for warm up for sight laps and for idling through the pits and for ripping the one or two laps I’m still in shape enough to handle.

So in other words run what fuel your motor is designed for!

Ask whoever built your motor what octane it requires, although that's a tough question for most to answer accurately. Anything over the required octane points will loose power. Anything under will run hot and possibly detonate worst case. If they say 100, try to stay right around there by using math to figure out your race fuel / pump fuel mix.

Some people use a 2stk premix additive for break in, but I wouldn't say it's needed. And I also vote for 50/50 fuel mix to be safe for most 2-stk motors unless it's really pumped up, but the builder would most likely warn you of what fuel to run in it if that were the case.

Yo ginger this is Kleinmotorsports from IG. Simple and sweet “run the fuel and mix you plan on running “ get a good 3 heat cycles in and let it rip.

Run the fuel it is meant to use, but some tuners will tell you to break in with a petroleum based 2-stroke oil to let the piston and rings seat properly.

Roller bearings and Nikasil cylinder.. don’t really need to “break” in. Run it

VP T2 (it's 40:1 in the can).

If you want to "cut it down" to 50:1, use some VPR.
