I've got a 87 mx 250 I'm restoring but the engine is pretty toasted and finding cases ect is nigh in impossible but I do have access to a 86 250 engine which is perfect but I don't know if it will fit and don't want to splash the cash if I don't need too

85-86 is the Type 544 motor... 87 is Type 545 - different beast for many parts; 87 was first year of the power valve. I have a 1987 250 cylinder in pretty good condition if you need it - but I'd imagine you can find one on your side of the pond.

Here's a good USA based resource... https://www.pentonpartsusa.com/3%201985+KTM%20parts.htm

and Andre in Austria likely has whatever you need, just make sure you have deep pockets for most stuff https://www.enduroklassiker.at/

Shoot, if you're in the UK and need a 80's KTM source - you need to hit up Shane Skelhorn of London MX

Thanks for the reply, I would prefer to repair this engine as it only needs the usual bearings and seals which are available from Andrew but the clutch cover is U/S and I can't find one anywhere.
I'm in the UK so I'll check out London mx.
