in that photo he passed alot of guys in that corner on the 1st lap that got all bunched up on the outside

So obviously, he started in 12th then. Passing all those people doesn't count. In fact, he passed everyone but one guy before that race ended so in actuality he should have been awarded with "2nd" off the start. It's not fair to give him credit for passing 19 people on a track that's nearly impossible to pass on.
