My guess would be that it's the wins...and the prestige, money, women and cars that come with it.
In a past life, I worked at Specialized Bicycles, and shot a lot of photos with their World Cup mountain bike team. One of the riders they had on the roster while I was there was Filip Meirhage, a really cool and fun-loving Belgian guy who also happened to be an absolute animal on two wheels. Some years after I left there, he won a World Championship title, and some time after that, he was busted for PEDs. It was sad to hear.
I don't remember the exact quotes, but he was having trouble getting back into shape for a season, and was a few steps behind...and that's when he got started using them.
I know people that are sure that they're being used in our sport. If so, I hope they figure out that it's not worth getting busted and dealing with the shame that'll be heaped on them. I've seen it before. It's not pretty.

Very well put. That is how it will and would be viewed. And yes there are those that see riders as more than just equipment.
And if what you say is true about the AMA testing, I think that's great, but I have zero confidence they will get it right.
My whole point is, it is MX's dirty little secret and it needs to come out of the closet. There's no disinfectant like a little sunlight.
In pro cycling, PED's are a part of the package if you want to compete at the top. Why the fuck should those coming through the amateur ranks of our sport, that DON'T want to use them, wind up at a disadvantage to those that do?? At some point, rules have to be made and enforced.
Hell, we don't let people run 300cc bikes against 250's and then turn around and say "testing for displacement will just become a big bag of worms.....we don't need it." And yet, that's the mantra of many on the no-testing side of this issue. WTF?
Pit Row
OF COURSE!!!!
This crap's been swept under the carpet for way too long, and nobody's gonna pay but the kids. It's disgusting.
In a sport full of republican drug war lovers and Christian do-gooders who preach from the podium after buying into their trackside Chapel dogma, I'm constantly amazed at how big the blind eye actually is!
After looking at the crowd around the podium, and I think I can say with confidence that no media guys are using performance-enhancing drugs.
PEDs are not that much different than factory bikes if you think about it............
doubtful at best
get real

Oh come on GuyB, I've seen those media guys haulin some big ass cameras and gear bags around like all they had on was their underwear (sick picture). It's obvious these media guys are suckin down something and their testing is long overdue. (wink, wink, nudge, nudge)
