hey all im new to the forum , im hoping someone on here can help me . ive recently started a restoration project on an old 1992 yz 125, im just about to start rebuilding the engine when i noticed that on this bike the drive sprocket (the small one ) is solid it has no play in it.
Every other bike ive ever had, this sprocket has been loose on the shaft and has play in it to help with chain and sprocket alignment.
After a bit of investigation i found that if i remove the lock nut and put it back on the other way round i have the movement in the sprocket, but when its on the way it was when i got the bike nothing.

So my question is, is it normal for there to be no play atall in the drive sprocket on this bike , or should it have the play and the previous owner changed the sprocket at some point and put the nut on the wrong way round ? any info on this would be a big help .

Pics Please! Doin a 92 myself. There is play in the shaft w/ no nut., ensure u have correct collar and outside toothed washer .. The nut goes on w/ the recessed side facing the case, eliminating almost all play.Dont over torque-once washer folded over it aint goin nowhere. If nut doesn't have a recessed area on ONE side, get proper one or shifting issues will ensue. Mine wouldn't engage properly on bench w/o the nut getting rid of the play. Got an extra powervalve??? Whatever you do, locktite that bastard. Think my ebay special broke at the thinnest part. Cant rule out bolt coming loose though. Was new bolt torqued to spec- no locktite. Best Wishes, Mark. PM to swap parts.

No (well you can) put it here so others may benefit / or chime in and teach us both something. If I go AWOL pm me, but ill try and ck bike builds daily. Glad to help if I can.

THERE AINT ONE FKN PV ON EBAY RITE NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cindy has one for $227 my cheap just got fired (by a D!Ck) azz need to steal the wifes visa and call it a day.
Git-R-done......

Another thing. Ima college educated master )haha) auto mechanic by trade. W/Yamaha shop manual & $700 worth of torque wrenches. On a LOT of these bolts (careful of linkage/engine work) get it good -n-tite w/Blue locktite & throw that fkn torque spc in the river. Ive had a few come loose I know were right. Maybe worn basket case byproduct? don't know. Promise you if I hit it like a real mechanic w/ locktite it wouldn't have. Correct triple tree/fork torque specs scare me actually but my front end hasn't fallen off yet.
