I'd get a degree, and try and work sales somewhere. If you are good at it, the money is relatively good, and its not relatively hard to get hired into sales. For instance my uncle works for tucker rocky distribution as a representative, and usually just drives all around stopping by all the dealerships he serves and just takes care of his customers in general.

but

1 it is cheaper to run and race vs a 4 stroke.
2 they inherently have a cult following. which is an instant fan base
3 because of the extra exposure of being the freak at the races you are marketable
being marketable= someone to advertise with which mean sponsorship money.

just look at the old guy running the series on a 250. he has support and he's not even close to qualifying for a race.

If you want to make it in this sport you need to stand out. What can you bring to the table? Results are the best way, but even then that isnt a given.
Honestly, I own a yz 250 and a yzf 450. I love my 250 two stroke. I race both the 250 and 450 classes. I will be riding that alot this year!

I think What everyone is trying to point out is, this isnt something you can have both ways. If you try to do both, both will suffer. Your work will suffer taking time off for races, your racing will suffer cuz youre not training or making races period.

figure out what you want.

If you want to make a living out of racing, then you need to focus on that, and embrace the suck that comes with being a privateer.

If you want a career job, then you need to put off the idea of racing professionally outside of local races.

I just think my plans for this year. I believe im going to attempt Lorettas areas, Regionals, and do the local NESC series in New England. For work I am going to work locally odds and ends, handy mand jobs. Also I may work for my father a little bit, anything to help fund motocross. Next year, I have no clue. We will go from there... Im just going to have fun, live life, and ride dirtbikes!
