I know he had some tremendous crashes, a season of SX off for knee surgery, a slow time coming to grips with the 250's and a season of IBS but his ass was always in the hunt. Even the "fastest rider on the planet" couldn't bring him down. Here are a few things I've either noticed or read from over the years, feel free to add to the list........

1) Hired a trainer and took it serious when he knew it was what he had to do.
2) Prepared food ahead of time so he wouldn't be eating questionble shit out on the road.
3) Wore a fresh set of Fox gloves for all those pit autograph sessions where everyone who had been through the porta can line wanted to shake his hand.
4) Knew when he was in over his head and backed it downa notch to save the championship.
5) Always put in the work to step it up for anyone who challenged him year after year.

his debut in the SX big bike class in 99, i think he banged up his collerbone and took a little time off for that.

he had the bad knee that he rode through at least one season that we know of, then decided to have it worked on during the sx series and be ready for the nationals.

if RC said the knee was bothering him and he wanted to get it fixed, you just know it was probably painful.

as someone mentioned above, he did have a serious case of upset stomach a couple of times.

reminds me of the time that mcgrath rode the last few rounds of the sx series with a hurt wrist. champions seem to have a way to will the pain off for a while and get it done.

i'll never forget the time ezra lusk rode with a steel rod in his arm. you gotta hand it to him, he had heart too.
The thing i really liked the most about the goat is that he gave a up a supercross series to get healthy for the nationals. Thats why he always won, he trained for the toughest series out there the nationals. I bet he could just destroy the 450's still on a 2-smoker.

Wasn't it 02 or 03 in SX when CR said that RC's Honda swapped so bad in the whoops he couldn't believe RC hung on and beat him. There is a lot of talent out there, but RC's record does stand alone for now.
