one of my favorite tracks, it was a lot of fun and close to home "Melbourne", it was right behind the XXX drive in theater

Thank you for replying, floridaflash is correct, the track was located just north of Barnes Blvd in Rockledge about a mile west of US 1. It was behind a old drive in movie theater. If you look at an aerial photograph of the area on one of the mapping websites you can see the location of the drive in theater. The track as I recall was to the north and west of the drive in, I think it was operated by the same people that owned the drive in as they used the drive in's concesssion stand. It opened up in the early 70's and closed sometime after Brevard County opened the track at Sharpes. Prior to the opening of the Rockledge track we used to go to Orlando Sports Stadium or New Smyrna Beach. I spent a lot of time at Rockledge with a buddy and hoped someone might have a photo or two of the track. Does anyone remember Blue Heron MX track in West Melbourne ?

Myron, my name is Bill Butler, I lived in the Eau Gallie section of Melbourne, I hung out with a guy by the name of Mark Day. Mark raced a blue 125 Honda Elsinore. Everybody else was busy painting their Elsinores red so Mark painted his blue to stand out. Do you remember Conrad Thon, he raced a Kawasaki KW 400 (?) and later on owned his own Kawasaki dealership in Melbourne (Con's Kawasaki). Bill

I new Mark well, and Conrad also, David Horne was my best friend when he got killed, I lived behind Bowe Gardens Babtist Church on Sarno Road, I raced from 1972 till about 1984

I lived on Sarno Rd. near the railroad tracks, went to Bowe Gardens Baptist, played on the church league basketball & softball teams, graduated from EGHS in 1973. I used to ride over behind Fountainhead around the airport from 1968-1972. We probably knew each other by sight. Mark Day and I still e-mail each other. He lives in southern Miss. and works at a NASA facility. I'm sorry to say I can't remember David Horne, but I was away in the Army from April 1975 to April 1978. If it happened in that time period I would have not known about it. Bill

Myron, yes, that was me at the old go cart track on Sarno Rd. Friday & Saturday nights the drunk red necks would come out and try to start a demolition derby on the track and we would be throwing tires at them to get them off the track, wild times. I gotta try and get Mark on this site. I'm sure he would know a lot of the people here. What ever happened to Con ? Last I heard he had a big dealership on Babcock Rd in Palm Bay and sold it several years ago. Bill

Does anyone remember the mx track on the west side of I-95 just south of the Diamondback track exit? I never raced there but you could see several small jumps and one large jump that eventually was covered by weeds. Just curious. I don't remember if I ever raced at Rockledge or not. Kind of seems like I remember a movie screen near a track though.

John, if you raced in Brevard County in the mid 70's and there was a movie screen near the track that was Rockledge. It was a flat piece of land that had sand whoops all over the place. There was a track on the west side of I-95 south of Diamondback in the mid to late 70's called Blue Heron MX, it was near West Melbourne.

Hey Myron, were you the young guy that used to come around the go cart track on the new 125 Elsinore? Bill

I thought Blue Heron rang a bell as far as mx goes. There is also an exit off 95 in Palm Bch. named Blue Heron.

I remember the track just south of Diamond back on the west side of 95. I never saw anyone there riding? I think it was abandoned.

Myron, I DO remember you, I thought your name was familiar but couldn't figure out why. I remember when you brought your new 125 Elsinore out to the track and I talked you into letting me try it out back. I got a wheelie on it and turned it back over to you when the boss came out back and put us back to work. I got a e-mail from Mark Day this morning and he said he remembered you too. He said they used to call you Jethro for some reason. Mark also reminded me the name of the drive in at the Rockledge track was the Sky-vue. I had forgotten that (53 year old memory). I read where you raced till 1984, are you still riding? Bill

no, my son started in 2000 and raced till about a year or so ago, at one point I did ride some with him and thought about racing again but I new better. I will try to put some pics up

John, I'm about 5 years late but here is a pic of the track your asking about. it only had a couple races before closing but this is pictures from MXA at the opening round of the NML winter nationals. The bottom pic is blue heron for sure because I'm in it. thats Dale Ellis on the right me in the middle and two wide open maicos that I had to use as berms. Dale ran away with series open class.
