Hey guys new here obvisouly, recently picked up a somewhat ragged out 01cr250 , really wanted to do a newer gen chassis but this one was cheap enough I couldn't pass it up. Should I sell it and find a newer one or continue with the 01, and if so what's recommendations on getting updated plastics, suspension ect.

First, ride it. Some people love that bike, others hate it. If you like it then rebuild it. Send the suspension to a reputable company(pro circuit, enzo, race tech, factory connection,RG3). I would also do the top end and make sure the motor is completely sound. Not sure what you can do with plastics besides the TX Race kit.

That motor is very good. As good as any new 250 today in my opinion. It will also basically bolt right in the gen 3 chassis. I took my 2000 engine and put it in my 06 chassis. It's my favorite bike.

Where are the red graphics you're running on the airbox from? Nice looking bike!

Wsc96- they are from throttle jockey.

blewis18- You won't be disappointed. The 01 chassis is really good actually but the difference I feel is at turn in. The 01 has a little push on flat corner entrances. The 02-07 has none.
