40 Of Weekend's Shooting Victims Had Been Arrested 672 Times

""These gun offenders don't care. They could care less if it's an 80-year-old grandmother or a 5-year-old child out there," Johnson said. And that's our fault. Because we have constantly shown that we are not going to hold them accountable."

If the victims had been arrested that many times, imagine how many times the shooters had been. Surely most of the shooters had felony records which prevent them from legally possessing a firearm. So while everyone argues for more gun control, the criminals are just laughing. They get a slap on the wrist and go back for more. Damn shame.

They are going to redouble their efforts in a new study about how more gun control would provide positive benefits right after.they finish their their study that redoubles their efforts in correcting the ongoing problems with police departments arresting criminals.

So they could care less. At least there's that. Laughing

What gets me is that the anti gun crowd says we have to have Chicago level gun control on a nationwide basis for it to work. Hundreds of millions of guns here in the US and clear proof that Chicago's revolving door justice system is ineffective at curbing gun violence tell me otherwise.

I think Chicago should place state sponsored gun ranges in every precinct. They should provide them with guns as well. They'll stop shooting eachother because they have access to the gun ranges. I propose 2 million in taxpayer dollars to fund this endeavor.

Purely coincidence

It's a city by city, county by county, state by state problem. I don't live in CHI so I don't give a rats ass. Let them kill themsleves off. If it was a big enough problem for the people that live there, then you hope they would take care of it on there own. That's what freedom is about. If you don't like what's going on in your community then do something to change it, or move to get away from it. Simple solution to it.

52 shot over a single weekend! Wow
Every time they go through the courts revolving door someone is getting paid, business is good.

Stricter gun laws will not be effective unless they are implemented nationwide. It's quite obvious that criminals do not care about gun laws, but that has little to do with having stricter gun laws since it has been shown that stricter gun laws reduce gun related violence. With stricter gun laws, perhaps many of these 40 shooting victims/shooters would have already been in prison so your point is not only moot, but it begs the question.

I think you mean stricter punishment of crimes when firearms are used, not just stricter "gun laws" meaning to remove firearms from lawful people. The two don't equate to one another. It's the behavior of crime that you're wanting to stop, not that owning a firearm is a crime unless the person is not allowed to do so. Oh, I'm 400lbs, so I thing we need to take all the spoons out of everyone's hand because it will just make you fat. Tongue

Of course nationwide bans work, I mean, thank goodness we banned drugs nationwide and got rid of that problem!

What? Chicago and CA have some of the strictest laws yet also have the most gun murders. But if those same strict laws were Nationwide it would reduce the murders. Is that what your saying?

People are being murdered in Chicago and areas of CA because there are violent gang cultures in these places that want to murder eachother and anyone else that gets in the way. And the response from the DOJ and other Govt officials has been to go after the police departments that are trying to actually do something about it. It seems like we are on our way to a hands off policy.

I thought violent crime has gone down statistically since the 1960's. I would assume that includes gun violence. They have sold an awful lot of guns since 1960, pretty sure of that one. Not a gun problem so it's not likely chicago will join the rest of the country
This is so clearly not a gun problem but a people problem, it is hard to even imagine, someone arguing that because they are a bunch of lunatics shooting each other, we should take away other peoples access. Very slippery slope there

I think there should be stricter gun laws as well as harsher punishment for those in possession of firearms who cannot lawfully own or possess one. I am all for banning certain weapons and having limited gun ownership.

You must not understand the nature of addiction, and why drugs are such a huge problem, and why making them illegal will not help. The comparison to gun laws is laughable.

Most of the guns that were traced in these crimes were brought in from outside Chicago. If you don't have a nationwide ban, local bans will be ineffective. Whether murders will be reduced is not known, but less guns/stricter gun laws can and do help in reducing gun related violence.

Or 100% Are there any gun manufactures in Chicago? I imagine they must come from somewhere else if they are not manufactured there. Your spin cycle is broken.

lets see ban guns..all over because some wacko losers in chicago want to shoot themselves. that about sums up your argument. Maybe we should ban cars all over because of losers driving recklessly, or dirtbikes because they are inherently dangerous. Just because someone uses a product for a reason it was not intended for does not mean it is ok to remove others rights to use that product safely or for the purpose it was intended.

Drugs, that you seem ok with promoting the legalization of, apparently legalizing them will lower crime yet making guns illegal will lower crime?

If you don't recognize the problem you can never fix it. Figure out why other groups of people are doing just fine with their guns and figure out how to make the people who are not playing nice with their guns, become more like those that do. It is a community, socioeconomic problem. not a law problem. You can pass all the laws you want to, legalize this make illegal that, a lawless person/ or a lawless country does not care, and nothing changes. The laws are not being enforced.

The rule of law needs to be enforced. Without law enforcement, nothing really matters
Chicago has strict gun purchasing laws, but does not have strict or harsh illegal gun possession laws. Could you essentially say ok illegal gun in your possession, 5 years mandatory..yes you could, but if you are a politician trying to get re-elected in that community you look for the scapegoat,

So the gun problem is because of other areas without our gun laws, ridiculous. It is all about people taking personal responsibility for their actions, and accepting the consequences of those actions. If they taught that in public schools instead of common core we would all be a lot better off.

That's the point, the guns are coming from outside so any laws from within the city are going to be ineffective.

That's odd because you always write the same shit everytime a gun debate comes up and refuse to see anyone's point of view except the shit you've been spoon fed to believe.

So are you talking about stricter gun laws or a Nationwide ban on guns ? You referenced both.

Stricter gun laws does not prevent criminals from getting or using them. As you said criminals do not care about gun laws, or any other laws. So the result would be restricting access to guns for law abiding citizens who might protect themselves from the crimimals. Yes ?

In the case of banning guns. The result would be a flourishing black market with a whole new world of violence to go with it.

I know that people compare the US gun homicide statistics to other countries and conclude the we are a bunch of wild west idiots running around shooting each other. But when you look at it unemotionally and with common sense and truth it turns out that's not the case. What is it 25 or 30 thousand gun deaths a year or so ? When you break it down you find that the problem is suicide and gangs that are responsible for the majority of deaths. Restricting or banning access to law abiding people isn't going to change that is it ? In fact like I said wont it provide a lucrative black market for gangs and criminals to grow and prosper ?

Deaths by guns is very small compared to so many other preventable causes of death yet Liberal Democrats have made it a priority and are hell bent on banning, limiting, regulating, access to guns including law abiding owners.
Why do you think that is ?

Do you feel that if all guns go away tomorrow that these people involved will suddenly contribute to society in a positive way? Honest question

there is no reason to explain logic when you're not able to understand it. It's called cause & affect. It's the culture of the places and the fact they have been run by a certain group or party for decades means they will never get better. Just how it is and nothing that anyone can or will do about it.

Here is the big secret. They know these laws don't work. That is the point. A five year old could see the effects of these laws. Them wanting to lower crime is a sales pitch. It's just a sales pitch. Don't fall for it. The argument needs to change from the clear thinking people defending their views to going on the offensive about how the anti-gunners want to increase crime. All of the empirical evidence shows this. That is where the debate needs to Start. Been trying to get the message farther up the food chain to O'Reilly, Hannity, Limbaugh etc. But those guys are hard to reach.
