I have always wondered how much you actually do get if you win a 250 main event, also like how much each position wins... anyone got some good guesses?

Look at what MX Sports pays out to the guys at the Nats and you will think these SX riders are making big bucks.

Its awful what these guys make but they get what they deserve. All these riders would have to do is take 3 or 4 weeks off and the money would pick up. You can't have a race without riders. The biggest problem is MX Sports teaches the riders at the Amateur level that the money only goes one way in this sport. You pay they take. I am not sure how these promoters sleep at nite. Its pretty messed up.

They also get paid contingency from the OEM, apparel company, goggles, pipes, etc. Most OEMs pay $25,000 for winning a Lites SX. If you are on a support team, it is normal double the posted contingency. So $50,000 for first from the OEM. Around $10,000 from the apparel company. When you add everything up, it is about $75,000 for winning a SX Lites race.

let me get this straight the OEM's payout for contingency, and sponsors etc up to around 75k and the promoter pays out $2500.00 thats interesting.
wonder who is making the money, The Rider ? the OEM / Sponsors? or the Promoter

The purse payout for a SX or MX, is not much in the grand scheme of things and the places that actually pay enough for a privateer to make any money are the spots the factory guys usually occupy. Most of those guys are probably not too concerned with the purse money anyway...but it is what it is.

It has actually gotten a lot better though in the last 10yrs. In 2000 when I finished 6th in the 125 class at Atlanta, I made $430 from AMA, $900 from Suzuki Contingency and another $100-$150 or so from a couple of other sponsors. I believe I was the only full privateer in the top 10 that night and was pumped!!! But not so much when I saw what I was going to make for it. The same year...at the Joliet SX, I made the 250 main...tangled up with RC on the first lap and went down. Got up and was almost a lap down by then. Cruised around for 20 laps and made close to $4K!! Purse was much more for that class, privateer fund portion was a good bit and some tool company was paying an extra $1K to all privateers who made the main that night. Picked a good one, I guess!!

So...if it wasn't for a couple of people who were close to me, paying for some of my expensive, I would have never been able to keep racing as long as I did, if I lived off of the purse, contingency, et. It is a shame...but like I said...it is what it is.....but it beats a regular job any day usually!!

All I know is the entry fees for SX have gone from $125 to $200 in the last 3 years, and the payout has gone up exactly zero!

Prize money for privateers at least should be at least 5 times what it is today. Last place in a Lites main should pay at least $1500.
These guys are risking their lives out there.

Does anyone have any idea or educated guess what kind of profit margin Feld has on putting these things on?

Do you think their margins are thin or do you think they are pretty good?

What would you guess they clear at the end of the night once the last person is paid and they are counting profit money?

Are they a publicly traded company? I believe they are owned by Clear Channel, correct? And when did the name become Feld? The reason I ask is because it would be easier to find their financial earnings reports

I'm just curious about all of these questions because like everyone else I would really like to see the riders paid more.

SH_105 had a great idea when he was talking about how the riders are THE SHOW and they shouldn't be paying entry fees. Feld should go over to a system like they do with the Monster Truck Jam or whatever it's called. Feld should be PAYING these riders ust for showing up to race, not the other way around!

Don't have all the answers about Feld you are looking for, but I did work with them last year during the ATL round. The shops that I was running an Amateur team for was the Premeir "Dealership" sponsor of that round. I believe they paid $10K or more to put up a couple of banners in the stadium and have 4 booths in the pits. I know they had a lot of other sponsors putting in a lot more money than that.

So my point is, I would imagine a lot of their expenses are paid out of this money and the earnings from ticket sales and all....could be straight profit!! Now...there are a ton of details that would need to be considered here and expenses we probably do not even know about or could imagine how much they cost the promoters.

But, I agree...the racers should not have to pay to race and put on this show for 40-60000 fans and they should make much more money than they do. Maybe one day???

Feld probably does really well at some races (Anaheim 1, 2 and 3, San Diego, Atlanta) and probably loses their shirt at other races when the stands are not very full (Detroit, Jacksonville and a few others).

Be happy that Feld is willing to risk the capital in this economy when the OEM's and most every other sponsor is cutting back on their advertising budgets across the board. I was suprised (and happy) that Feld was able to keep buying time on CBS for 2010.

Let me tell you about business and it is a business for Feld. If the profit margins were not good they wouldn't be doing it. That should answer your question.

...These guys are way underpaid.

Bobby imagine if even half of the energy/ time it has taken you to make 9k+ posts was directed at trying to help the sport and especially the riders. You may be a legend by now outside of your own world.

Riders have to show a lot more respect to their fans and sponsors and just maybe they could achieve more Prizemoney and not have to pay for the racing.

Someone mentioned the other day that Monster Trucks is staged racing for the fans.
I dont want to ever see that but the riders can learn from the way they market themselves with hours spent signing autographs etc.

The promoters are greedy and always have been but if they even put a $5 tax per ticket to go toward Prizemoney and rider Insurance, it would make it a lot better for the rider/entertainer.

I vote for Mr Bobby M to be on the riders board.

I'm happy! I'm also signed up to listen all season long as well. One more week and I have a feeling it's going to be epic!
