You and others should be thankful for supercross because it's about the only thing that is keeping this sport afloat.

It won't effect my riding in the least if James Stewart isn't paid $10,000,000 next year, or if the SX series isn't 12 rounds...

Anybody that says "supercross is for pussies" has never been on a motorcycle, let alone a track...

That you and I can agree on.

The OEMs have to have a reason to "Name Brand" and supercross is that reason. There is no big money to be made in the dirt bike industry (for the OEMs) and name branding and Japanese pride is why the OEMs continue to develop the competition dirt bikes. If not for supercross the sport would be in a holding pattern and not a lot of new technology would be taking place.

I am not so sure that this will be the case if the economy doesn't get better soon.
Advancements like more expensive bikes that weigh more, don't handle as good, don't make as much power but make much more noise?

They had to change the SX tracks because the 4 stks were a step backwards in the handling dept.

Our recent technological advances are only better because we changed the rules and the tracks.

Amateur MX is what keeps the sport afloat, 70K people at an SX isn't why Japan invests in these guys.

As for SX vs MX, the people attending a nat are for the most part participants in the sport, you might bring in more people with SX but not necessarily people who will participate and put money into the sport. Either way, they're not making a living selling bikes to pros, without amateur mx they have nobody to sell to.

If you don't like it that the promoter offers most of his money to the the top guy, while filling the rest of the gate with spares, I say take it up with the promoter, not the top guy.

Why does a dog lick its balls?

Because it can.

Why does James Stewart choose only certain events and series to ride based on the payback they can provide him?

Because he can.

And good on him for that. It's one way to game the risk vs reward equation. It should also extend his career.

There's not one person on this board with any brains at all that would do it any differently if they were in the same position.
