LOL Wow I raced that race in '91. It was UNREAL! I remember it all pretty well. Before the race I was getting ready to put on a plastic rain jacket and my dad / mechanic suggested I would get too hot and just go stock with jersey / pants.

Well that ended up being the worst decision I made all day. After completely submerging yourself in some of those water holes, it got cold, real cold. I ran around 4th for most of the moto behind Vohland, Henry and Budman. Vohland's bike broke and I chased Doug and Bud to the finish.

I remember seeing them just up ahead, but my teeth were chattering so hard and I was totally shaking from being soaked and cold that I was content with 3rd. LOL It was like I was going into hypothermia.

I shook and chattered for a good hour after that race while watching the 250 class. Of course that mightve been cause I was laughing so hard watching Chicken, JMB, Dowdy, etc going jet skiing on dirt bikes. LOL

My bike on the other hand ran like a champ to the finish. As other mechanics were trying to duct tape up the airbox to keep water out, my dad/mechanic figured there was no way to keep the water out and instead drilled holes in the bottom to allow it to drain.

When everyone else's bikes flooded out, mine lasted to the finish. I remember watching him take the bike apart that night and seeing the brown trail of mud running right into the carb but somehow it kept running. Damn Don always had my bikes runnin awesome, rain or shine.

Anyways, that was the only podium I ever had in MX and they didnt even have a podium celebration that day! The bas&^%! LOL But that day definitely brought to light, two of the greatest ambassadors our sport has ever had, Doung Henry and John Dowd. Two total icons.
