MC gave me a race worn jersey back in '04

It was worn once and then dry cleaned then autographed before given to me

Sat in my closet til a month ago when I took it to the local sports memoribilia shop to be framed

After going by several times to pick up the jersey, and being told it isnt done, and they dont know when it will be done, I finally got it (almost 2 weeks late).

When I went to pick it up I thought I was on an episode of punk'd...

Not only was the background matting color not even remotely close to what I'd ordered, but they didnt even put the right text on the plaque. I had requested it to read: "The KING of SUPERCROSS"

Instead it read "Geremy Mcgrath". Yes, you read that right, Geremy fucking Mcgrath! Not only was the text wrong, they mispelled both his first and last name!

At this point I was visibly pissed off and making a scene in the store. And then the real travesty became apparent. If you thought the other errors were bad you may want to skip this next part as it is not for the faint of heart.

After coming to grips with the nameplate bullshit I was then able to notice that the iron-on Red Bull logo that ran down the arm was peeling off. Needless to say I fully inspected the jersey with the store manager to verify that it was in perfect condition when I dropped it off.

At this point I lost it in the store. (Parents were doing the ear-muffs thing) HOW THE FUCK DOES THE IRON-ON LOGOS, MADE TO TAKE WRECKS AND 10'S OF TRIP's THRU THE WASHER AND DRYER, BE COMING OFF!

Later that day I was on the phone with the stores manager who offered me my money back. So I then call their district manager and told him the situation. He was appalled and promised he would do anything in his power to make the situation right. He said a blow like this to their company would really hurt their credibility as they handle rare merchandise on a regular basis.

He offered to fix everything. I told him I dont trust his people to hold the jersey let alone try and fix it.

So he then offered to pay to get me a new jersey from McGrath, provided I give him a reciept from my original purchase (it was given to me as a gift but I didnt tell that). I'd get to keep the original, and they'd refund me my money 100%. I said that would be great but MC is retired, and picking up a race-worn jersey isnt going to be cheap. Personally, I just wanted my original jersey back, somebody fired, and permission to kick the store manager in the nuts.

Im supposed to go back to the store next week, to pick up the jersey (it has to be dissassembled from the frame) and examine its condition. At that time it is up to me what I want to do. Ive since called good friend Victor Sheldon, who works for Thor and originally introduced me to MC. He says he can have the jersey fixed good as new. So I hope it isnt in too bad of shape when I pick it up. I dont want another jersey as the original is personalized and holds some sentimental value to me.

So to my question and the point of the thread...does anyone know a reputable jersey framer here in socal they can refer me too? Someone who knows how to spell "Jeremy McGrath" but will put "The KING of SUPERCROSS" as Ive requested. And more importantly wont try and ruin the jersey.

thanx.

This may sound crazy, but Michael's, the craft store, really did a good job on some things I've had framed over the years. When shopping around they were a little pricey, but the have a coupon for 50% off any custom framing order. I had a Nick Van Exel Jersey framed up by them. It was done when they said it would be, and turned out better than I thought. I was nervous as hell just dropping the jersey off. Good luck!!!!

Have to wonder what they did to make the iron-on come off. That stuff shouldn't just come off. Even if handled roughly.

It usually takes solvents to get them to lift, and even that's not reliable. Plus it can damage the sublimated printing of the jersey, not to mention the autograph.

Fortunately, if the logo was only mechanically removed from the jersey, it can usually be pressed back into place.

Good luck on getting it repaired and framed again.

Why don't you email Showtime with your story and a pic of your jersey and maybe he just might send you a new one? Your obviously A Mcgrath mark so who knows. It is worth a shot.

Oh a " Mark " is another word for superfan!

hey trip, how much was it at michaels? i doubt it was as much as i paid these jerkoffs. i too have taken posters and stuff to michaels to get framed with decent results.

shiftless, i will make that decision when i go in to pick up the jersey and inspect it. if its jacked up beyond repair, getting a new one shouldnt be hard (but i dunno about getting a race worn one). but i hope the original is just fixable.

Don't trust the teenagers behind the framing counter at Michaels with anything of value. They're usually part-timers on a summer job. I have a 200 year old document that I took in there to have framed, explained in detail the fragility of it, the need to not fold spindle or mutilate it, etc. Got it back and the matte did not completely cover the document. The guy at the counter started to take it all apart and, lo and behold, they had SCOTCH-TAPED the document to the matte. Not the easy release holding tape, but plain old xmas wrapping tape. I don't have to tell you how fragile 200 year old paper is. I could not believe it. Fortunately I found someone who specialized in high-quality framing who was able to salvage it for me. Cost a fortune and lesson learned.

Bad news dude.
When I am out there I deal with a Pro lab.
The owner K. does beautiful art paintings from photos and he has to have them framed. They have a Gallery in the store. If your in there and see any moto art its a good chance its one of my GH photos.
If they can't do it for you maybe they can refer you to a real shop that can.
Its called Pro Photo Connection. Its in Irvine about 2 miles from the Air Port.

Give them a call.

I am lucky I have a great place at home but thats Michigan so of no use to you.

Good luck.

200.00 bucks, and I had a pretty trick matting. It was going to be 450.00, but I had that coupon they send out in the paper, and they had a close out type frame. So I got kinda lucky. It was a while ago, when Van Exel was on the Lakers.
Plan on making two trips if you use them. One to get a quote without the coupon, then you know where your at, themn come back in a few days with the coupon. I always think when they see the coupon they jack the price up, so go in without it first.

Hate to admit it but I go to Michales quite a bit, especially around Halloween, and the peeps working behind the framing counter are usually older type people. I got the feeling she really cared about the results. She explained everything and a few different ways to do it.

My wife, who was my girlfriend at teh time, ran my autographed jersey through the wash and pretty much removed MC, Bradshaw, JMB, Stanton and others autographs from it way back when, it wasn't a race jersey like yours it was one of my jerseys but it still pissed me off for awhile.

thanx...that was what i was looking for.

and hopefully everyone else can learn a lesson from my experience, no matter how credible the place appears, its a risky proposition unless youre getting a solid referal from someone. i wish i had posted here prior to taking the jersey in.
