CRF 450 Gearing

Edited Date/Time 1/27/2012 7:00pm
Broke my 08 in Saturday and it is geared just like the 07- too low! Have to shift too fast coming out of corners in 2nd and 3rd gear taps out too quick or the tracks I ride.

Just curious to what the hot set up is for MX if anyone knows?

Stock ratio is 3.69 I was thinking of going with a 14-50 or 14-49 which would be 3.57 and 3.50 which would also smooth out the power and take advantage of the tremendous torque of these 4 strokes.

Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated.

Axle is way back with stock gearing and dropping one tooth on the rear would put it back even further- How would that affect the handling?

Get a new chain, and remove one link to make up for the smaller rear sprocket.

Yeah, that would definately be the cheaper way to go. I have heard somewhere about the advantages of running larger sprockets- I know Team Honda does this.

Anyone know about this?

I am not sure you will notice a difference in the handeling with the axle being back. If you do, like the guy above me said -- take a link out and/or get a new chain.

I would get a new chain, try it and if you don't like it you can alway go back to the stock set up.

I for one can't tell the difference when the axle is further back except the fact that it seems to track a little better. Besides that, it doesn't seem to effect the way it handles.
