Going to Vegas SX for first time and have a question

I know it a long way out (but not that long woohoo!) until the Vegas SX but I wanted to get some things lined up.

I bought tickets awhile ago for the race and booked a hotel on the strip.. Never been to Vegas before so going for a 4 day weekend.

Main question I wanted to ask is what is the best way to get out to the SX stadium? Am I going to need to rent a car for a day and return it after the race? (plan currently was to just get a cab from airport to strip when we arrive Thursday morning) Can I get a cab to the place and more importantly get one to pick me up afterwards during prime time saturday night? Whats more cost efficient?

Are there any other activities going on related to SX pre or post race? We'll probably go to the stadium somewhat early to check out the stadium and see some of practice but we're not planning on being up there at 10am or anything like that.

They usually have shuttle buses from a designated hotel on or near the strip. Used to be the Hard Rock but I believe it was from another hotel this last year. We usually arrive at 12:00 to watch practice and qualifying.

You can catch a cab there no problem, but getting one after the race takes forever. There is usually a line up of hundreds of people waiting for a cab. We just go down the street a little ways and flag one down and offer them an extra $20 to take us right away.

If you rent a car expect spending another 30 mins at least trying to get out of the lots after the race. Saying that, renting a car would be the best experience imo, nothing better than in-n-out after a couple hours of supercross and race fuel fumes in the air!!!

Not the cheapest option but the best way to do Vegas SX/MEC is to take the free bus to the event in the afternoon but book a limo back to the strip with cold beer waiting for you inside. The lines for the buses after the event(s) can take 60-90min before you get on the bus and you'll feel drained by the time you get back to the strip. I believe there is an endurocross race at the Orleans the night before SX and the last time we went we had a blast watching that so don't miss it if they are doing it this year.

Arenacross at the South Point also. Last years AX race didn't disappoint at all.

This years MEC the shuttle bus was from the Palms, I drove and the parking to get in is easy but if you have any alcohol at the race and drive there will be cops everywhere so be careful. I will do the limo route for the SX this year as it will be the most convenient... Expensive but probably be fun and add to the experience. I don't think anyone does the Hardrock any more... It has gone down hill the past few years right along with Mandalay Bay and Luxor... Aria is where it is at but it is super expensive.

Getting out of the parking lot wasn't too bad this year after the MEC. There a lots of options, none will get you out of there really fast unless you get lucky. Like bvm111 said, lots of cops there after the race lets out. Rent a car and then you can also go eat and go see other stuff that is not on the strip.

Rent a car, bring a BBQ and some drinks in a cooler, food and a few lounge chairs. Have a little BBQ and eat after the races in the parking lot. By the time your done all the traffic will be gone.

Uber is cheaper then a cab and they will come to where you are. Vegas taxi rules, they are NOT allowed to pickup any riders unless from a designated cab area. Like someone said, cab's might take a $20 to bypass those rules.
