Last year i attended an exhibition through work (non mx related) for farmers and land owners looking for alternative use for their land.
There was some interesting stands for various different uses for land alot to do with solar panels and these glamping pods, i have since done research and ran some rough figures and the majority of the new uses such as the glamping pods or solar panels wouldn't pay out as well as a good quality motocross track which got me thinking.

a good track would pull in avg 80 riders 3 times a week during 7 summer months, all paying £30 a time. Which is over £200k a year, obviously there would be running costs, insurances, marshalls, track maintenance, build etc. (These figures are obviously very lose) but a land owner could potentailly make close to £200,000 a year for giving up only 10-20 acres of land.

I personally would love to find more and new quality practice tracks like Apex, fat cats, preston docks etc.

I had the idea of crowd funding to get a stand at the exhibition to educate land owners and farmers looking to make money off their land as to just how much money they could make from facilitating a good quality mx track.

reason behind me doing this is because I am an avid fan of the sport and ride but don't race, i'd like to find new places to ride without having to travel hours. I also think it'd help to grow the sport and would like to be a part of that.

Please let me know your thoughts and feedback and if i were to set something up, would you donate to the cause, even if it was just a £5a, every little helps.

Cheers

I don't get what your saying/asking for

its the councils/ local residents that are the problem, not the farmers- its not worth the hassle for most landowners unfortunately

I am asking for advice and feedback as to whether it'd be worth crowd funding to get an exhibition stand at a landowner and farmers conference to inform them about how much money they could make from 10-20 acres of their land, through opening a motocross track, this thread probably only relates to UK residents as i'm sure the way you guys do things over there is a lot different.

Your figures are all wrong.

1) you won't get 80 riders, three times a week. No way.
2) Out of the 'supposed' £200k, you've got to take out insurances, track build, maintenance, staff wages, advertising, legal fees (trust me, you will have some dealings with the council, so many costs which you won't have even thought about!

If you want to apply for planning permission, and I mean merely APPLY (fill in a form) you'll need to accompany that with a cheque for £400 and that is no guarantee you'll get ANYTHING out of it!
Without the planning permission you are restricted to just 14 days per year to run.

GPDO- General permitted development order means that you can use your piece of land for 28 days per year WITHOUT planning permission, but that is REDUCED to 14 days per year for motorsport or practice for motorsport.
Then it takes a handful of complaints and you'll be slapped with an order stating more reductions and restrictions on operating days/times. Name the tracks in the UK who DO have planning permission for 3 days use per week?!

So, go tell your farmer, you'll give him £200k for his 20 acres per year, for 14 days, doing quick and very lazy estimations:

£200'000 divided by 14 days= £14'285 rent per day.
Staff wages, 6 marshals, 1 paramedic = £300 per day
MCF Insurance for 80 riders practicing is £200 per day.

you'll need 493 riders per day @ £30 per rider to pay this lot alone. Thats BEFORE you've needed to pay for a mini digger, power harrow and water bowser.

I 'get' your sentiment, but your initial ideas and post is WAAAAAY off reality.

You'd be surprised at how many local farmers have hidden tracks in their backyards - they just aren't advertised like tracks are.

Seriously, I've found a lot here just from roaming on google maps earth mode and calling the land owners.
