Dominant performances after rest days are straight out of the USPS team/Armstrong book of Tour victories. It was later USPS riders were were getting blood bags on the rest days delivered by a motorcycle rider with refrigerated side carriers. Today Sky riders finished 1st, 2nd and 6th. Porte and Thomas in front of some of the greatest climbers in the world while Froome rode away from everyone like they were overweight tourists. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
Yep, the finish was dominant but that was only after the really steep stuff was over. On the tougher incline a little earlier he looked to be on the edge of losing contact with the front riders. Either he's a top quality actor or he's just not nearly as invincible as people believe when the mountains are really serious. Whatever the case, nearly 3 mins is a healthy lead and the others will have their work cut out now.

Oh and Nibali's lack of form doesn't imply dirty dealings last year , quite the opposite. Cheats just don't stop cheating, especially when it brings rewards like winning the Tour. Armstrong - seven straight. His win last year had a lot to do with other riders getting injured.

with the fans, what about the guy in woman swim suit with blonde wig and a beard jumping around.
and at the very end, SO many spectators surrounding the lead cyclist mere inches away with flags yelling and screaming.

Froome always looks like he's struggling. Even the commentators yesterday were going on about how his riding style is so "bad". He doesn't look efficient at all, like he's wasting a ton of energy but he gets it done. And he's most likely boosting.

I'm neutral on Froome. But I don't like watching him ride because he looks like a rusty tin man. No elegance, too much herky-jerky. He's probably a super responder to whatever PED program he's on hence the miraculous transformation at a late age. But I gave up long ago on trying to figure out who may be clean and just watch the beautiful spectacle of road cycling at the highest level. It's a remarkably grueling sport played out in scenery unmatched by almost any other competition arena.

Nighttrain I'm 110% with you on your final sentence. Plus once you've cottoned on the the strategy stuff it's just addictive. At the end of the race there seems a big hole in my daily entertainment.

As to the doping, I genuinely believe there's hugely less of it now. Mainly because the form of all the guys is nowhere near as reliable as before from race to race ,season to season. Like I said before cheats are greedy for success e.g. 7 straight L.A. ( read Tyler Hamilton's book "the secret race" before saying, they're all doping.)

I wish I could remember how Cheryl Crow described the peloton when she was dating Lance. I'm not going to screw it up by misquoting her, but the description was beautiful and spot on.

I agree, the strategy is really fun to watch play out.

I'm a serious cyclist, well I was up until a few months ago due to health issues. Doping is still going on in the peloton to think. Not is crazy. Hell I personally know local mtb and road racers that are using PEDs and some of them are currently racing local Cat and Masters races. Everyone is willing to risk it because they are searching for results for sponsorship, fame and money. With that said I'm not accusing Sky nor Astana nor any one TDF racer. But I know its going on at the TDF. No doubt in my mind.

I just watched the complete stage today. Chapeau, Joaquim Rodriguez. Beautiful stage, I love the way Valverde rides, throwing wild haymakers. He's always been a race animator. Froome and Thomas may go 1-2 in Paris.

Lots of talk going on that is so lame, people saying Frooms pedal cadence looks a lot like Lance's so he MUST be doping.

*im not saying ANYONE is clean, but please give me better evidence than that rubbish!

Google "Froome Doping" all the articles are from the last 2 days.

I hear ya. Most of it is rooted in nationalism. Over the last few years Wiggins, Porte, Froome and Thomas (all from the British Empire and riding for Rupert Murdoch's team) have been laying waste to competitors in most of the TdF's.

I bet Lance thinks Sky is doping, but won't publicly admit it.

Upon touching down in France, Lance Armstrong has admitted that it’s his fault that Chris Froome is being subjected to the doping allegations that have plagued this Tour de France.

Speaking with Sky Sports News, Armstrong says he feels sorry that Froome is being grilled about the legitimacy of his performances – something that the Texan feels is not fair.

I've raced mtb and road since 89'. Serious cyclist can mean many things I feel I don't need to validate how bad ass I am or am not. I will give you kudos for riding 12 hrs though.

That's a good one, BW. It makes my back ache to think about 12 hrs in the saddle. I had a decent block of training for a few months. Taking a break now to ramp up for another Hellhole Gravel Grind this fall. Keep at it, BW.

Not cool. Richie Porte said he was punched by a roadside fan on a Pyrenees climb. Today, another spectator is said to have thrown a cup of urine on Froome. Unfortunately, this has happened before in LeTour. The greatest cyclist of all time, Eddy Merckx, took a hard kydney punch by a fan in the '75 TdF. One of the unique spectacles of cycling is the fans lining the roads on a climb. I was one in the '96 Tour of Italy. It's an incredible energy filled experience. Rider's love it as long as they are safe which is 99.9% of the time. The sprinters, at the back of the race in the big hills, are pushed by fans up steep parts of the climbs. My wife pushed her heartthrob, Mario Cipollini, a few yards up Brasstown Bald in the Tour of Georgia. I think she just wanted to touch his arse. That dude didn't even turn a pedal for as far as I could see up the 16% gradient. One fan drops off, another takes their place pushing a sprinter. Funny as hell.

Froome blamed the media this morning.

They should stop and beat the guy to near death then go win the stage.

Bobke was quiet funny this morning to.

Love this race,have withdrawal after.
