On SkySports they talked to his team, they said all we can do is apologize over and over.

"Hamilton snatches defeat from the jaws of victory". Funny hearing that from a F1 commentator instead of my high school football coach.

@virtualstatman That Safety Car decision robbed Lewis Hamilton of a 13th consecutive top-two finish, which would have been the 2nd longest streak ever

Just watched the race without knowing the results. What a fucking bullshit. Daytime robbery. And I don`t even like Hamilton.

No, not really. I`m a Sunday fan, watching it if I catch a race on TV.

I got to watch the replay this afternoon. That crash was gnarly. Dude had to be doing about 1 buck head on into the barriers. I don't quite get what happened with Hamilton though?

When the "virtual" safety car ... which is an immediate electronic speed control on all the cars... was turned on by race control. Hamiltons crew thought it ... the "virtual" safely car ... would be in effect for a while longer than it was.

Hamilton was ahead by about 24 seconds which his crew felt was enough time to get a fresh set of tires on. What his crew missed was the "virtual" safety car electronically controling all the cars speeds was replaced by the non speed controled regular safety car status almost immediately. Which released the cars from the slower speed so they could group up.

That's when the field made up the gap and why Lewis was asking what happened referring to Nico and Seb being in front as he pulled out of the pit lane.

Sorry for the long explanation.

Never been a fan of Hamilton with all his complaining. But I have to say he handled his interviews with class after his team robbed him of the victory. Bummer for him as he dominated the day.

No, the drivers must respect the speed limit during the course of the Virtual Safety Car. There is no such thing as an "electronic speed control" on the cars. The drivers control the speed just as they would in a yellow flagged zone.
