Bridgestone 510-18 trials tires

A few guys I ride with run various trials tires and love them. Especially in the mountains and spring with some snow water and wet roots and stuff.

I've noticed a lot of bikes in the back of trucks around here with a trials rear, not like those in the picture but full 70s style like this.

Good 50 50 tire if you use roads to get to the trails. My favorite trials tire of the lot is the Pirelli MT43. Compared to the Dunlop 803 and Mich Trial the Pirelli is the stiffest compound that last the longest for dual sport riding/ super tuff single track. I can usually get about 1,200 miles of single track out of the MT43 at 10-12psi. A really great front tire on the 500 is the Michelin Dezert Star, its expensive but worth it in the long run as it last for ever and grips like a son of a bitch. I actually used one on my moto bike once and was surprisingly good.

I see lots of the 70s style trials tires on the rears also.

How do they work on say more loose terrain? Those gummy tires work like a champ on rocks and stuff, but what about the occasional snow/ running meltoff and water/muddy slippery roots in the mountains?

In intrigued by those IRCs.....kind of an in between.

They work great in everything but wet clay. I had problems with the tire packing just after a weekend of rain but other then That its great. You do ride them different not having side knobs keeping the bike more vertical through corners. The kenda equilibrium should be out soon and I'll be testing it asap. It has a trial center type pattern with nice side tread!

...and I know many of those guys. Most are running the Pirelli MT 43. Long lasting and they're DOT approved.

I resisted for a long time, but there really is something to running these trials tires. I run one during the dry months. They're great.

Give the Motoz Mountain Hybrid a look. It is a cross between an offroad tire and a Trials tire and it is DOT.

The feedback I'm hearing about that one is that they're too wide for bikes under 450cc, and the sidewall is way to stiff. A number of guys are running them with the Tubliss system at 0 psi. A couple of guys I know bought them, and pulled them off to put a trials tire back on because they were not as expected.
