Got the new bike itch. Currently using an 06' yz250f for moto and an xr400 for woods / trails. Also have an 03' yz125 and a 96' cr250 McGrath tribute for the helluvit. Growing tired or maintaining and storing all these bikes, so I'm thinking of trading the 250f, XR and 125 and some cash for a new KTM 250 or 300 MXC. Can the MXC really be a track bike one weekend and a woods / hare scramble bike the next? I'm a fit 40+ guy who's as good as I once was, but not as fast as I once was (40+ guys with kids and a mortgage will understand). How do the 250 and 300 compare? I'm leaning toward the 300 because I've heard it's a 4-stroke-like 2-stroke. I'm not biased...I love both for different reasons.
I can tell you about the XC / SX differences though:
The 250 XC will have a larger tank, different cylinder head, different mapping, a kick stand, ELECTRIC start, and an 18" rear rim.
A SX head and ignition box would make the power plants identical. I think it would be a great dual threat bike, I love my SX for woods riding. Just as long as long as you won't mind the extra weight from the estart and battery
