Excellent buy. I loved Far Cry 3 and I hope when 4 comes out next week it is just as good.

Also a fan of the series here.

I pre-ordered (now pre-loading) Far Cry 4 today. I don't normally pre-order games but I got a choice between that and Assassins Creed Unity for free with my new GTX 970 - so given that I really enjoyed the last two Far Cry games (and given that ACU is a bit of a mess right now upon release) the choice was relatively easy. FC4 pretty much just looks like FC3 with some added features, but I sunk so many hrs I into the last one, so that's no bad thing imo. Looking forward to Tuesday!

I've been wanting to get into the series. I saw this deal yesterday and couldn't resist. Started with fc3 and love it so far. I figure I will play all three before I touch fc4. How do you like your 970? I have a 770.

Oh yeah it's awesome! Light years ahead of my old 560 ti, as you'd expect. I had taken my older card about as far as it'd go really; I like to try and get 2 or 3 yrs out of them. I'm only gaming at 1080p but it's nice to finally be able to run pretty much everything in my library at 60 fps + with barely a compromise on settings. It is physically a very long card though (I got the Gigabyte G1 version) and I only just about fitted it inside my case tbh.

The Far Cry games are quality, though they are all very different and entirely separate experiences with their own stories. The first isn't really an open world game at all, though a great shooter for its time. A lot of people got frustrated with FC2 - but it just has a different pacing and imo works better with a slower approach. Still, I feel that FC3 was a biggest improvement yet and the best of the series overall so far.

I just played some Far Cry 3 last weekend. I can pick it up and reset all the bases and attack them all over again. Just as fun as the first time.

I loved the first one but two I didn't enjoy as much. 3 I got into right away and like I said enjoyed the heck out of it. Can't wait for next week.

Yea I upgraded a few months before the 970 came out. I can still run about everything ultra at 60fps with the 770. It is awesome! I used to hope I would get 30 fps on some things. So I am thankful that I have something so powerful now lol. Far Cry is a pretty good looking game. I am having so much fun just sneaking. I love clearing an entire base without firing a shot. And the multiplayer aint half bad either! I'll probably pick up far cry 4 in the coming months once i get done with the first 3!

Yea it is weird. This is the first game that has come out in the past few years that is actually refreshing. I really like it.

hell yeah love the Far Cry series. can't wait for number 4 to come out. i fell in love with FarCry2, i couldn't believe they could put so much content into one game... and then FarCry3 came out and blew my mind. it still amazes me.

speaking of amazing, i've been playing the hell out of Assassins Creed Rogue. i had played with the idea to get a PS4 or One and get Unity, but i heard Unity is a big dissappointment. Rogue is sick as hell, they improved everything i didn't care for on Black Flag.

sorry i changed the subject to AC Rogue... it's worth looking into if you haven't already. well worth the $50

loved Bioshock and Infinite, didn't really care for Bioshock 2 though... Infinite had one of the coolest stories of any game i've ever played, the ending blew my mind yet made complete sense if you go back and start a new game.

Rogue is getting bad reviews and i'm not really sure why, it's better than any other AC game in every way... i'm thinking the guys reviewing it are AC fanboys and the Rogue story is about an Assassin turned Templar, so maybe the change in direction pissed them off. not sure. one thing i will say that i liked better in BlackFlag is upgrading your ship was much more important because there were a lot of story missions that relied on having a strong/fast ship... Rogue there is only 1 or 2 missions regarding the ship, so the rest of the ship-play is purely for enjoyment (which is hugely addicting). they are also downtalking the environments, which again, i found to be incredibly detailed and fun. pretty cool playing an AC game in colonial America.

Have put about 3 or 4 hrs into it now and I think it's safe to say that it's a pretty amazing game. Couple of notes - the grappling hook thing can only be used at defined points, but because those points are very plentiful you often find yourself getting dragged off your current objective to go explore up on that ridge or to swing across to the other side of that chasm etc. Gyrocopter is bad-ass too; very easy to fly which can lead to some pretty cool James Bond type moments with a machine pistol and grenades. Personally I like to follow 10 or 20ft above the roads and see what I come across.

I guess the game play is pretty similar overall and will be instantly recognisable to any Far Cry vet, but it also has a different feel to it imo and I find myself much more excited about this new world. Animals are more varied and much more aggressive, and it seems that there's much more in the way of crazy random encounters than before. Shortly after the intro portion of the game I was caught dead to rights by two enemy trucks full of enemies, but then (as I crouched behind a tree with my bow) I was saved by one seriously pissed-off nearby rhino which flipped their vehicles and started to kill them in spectacular fashion Smile . Fantastic stuff and all unscripted. Oh yeah, the elephant riding was better than expected too. Much of the outposts are destructible and you can go in there and just cause utter mayhem flipping trucks and sending guys flying 20ft over cliffs.

Anyway really liking it so far.

I'm not much of a gamer, so when the game gets too hard I usually stop playing. I quit paying FC3 when I got to where you burn the pot fields. I burned the fields but couldn't get past the next section. You guys talking about it have got me wanting to pop the game back in on "Easy" this time and try again. It's a really cool game.

Between the FC trilogy, Masterchief Collection, GTA 5 PS4, and MXGP PS4. I have so many games to play it's hard to decide which one to play each day. Not to mention that I'm picking up both of the new AC's and FC4 soon....

Ha,Ha I know what you mean. I was sitting here at work this morning and of course thinking about important things like do I watch SOA tonight, play FC4, play MX vs ATV Supercross, MXGP for the PS4 or MotoGP 14 for the PS4. I think FC4 will win out.

Playing the PC version of FC4 and have already run across some bugs. If you remap your controls on the mouse when you get to a rope you can't climb the rope. You have to change the mapping back to default and then back again after climbing. I got to the first rope climb near the tower and was like WTF is going on. I would just hang there. Finally went online and found out about the bug.

All the new games coming out I love this time of year. My wallet doesn't but I sure do. Looking forward to the Steam Winter Sale and picking up some more stuff on sale.

oh man... if you stopped after the pot fields mission then you saw about 10% of the game... you really need to do yourself a favor and switch the difficulty (that mission was very difficult) and give it another go.

With the weather turning bad a mid season break of the Walking Dead coming up I really need too. This is my anniversary weekend so I'll probably fire it back up of the long Thanksgiving weekend.

This year has been alright for gaming. Next year will be crazy though. Treyarchs next cod, battlefront from dice, possibly fallout 4, rainbow six new game, just cause 3, and some other stuff I can't think of. I don't think I'll get hardline though. I am also looking forward to the Christmas sale. I'm looking to pick up wolfenstein and possibly counter strike go. And you always have to account for the game you've thought about buying before that becomes 5$ and your just like "fuck it" lol. That is just video games though. Fallout 4 is my most anticipated game ever, but there is a movie that has much more hype for me next year... STAR WARS 7. I know this is a game thread but thinking about next year makes me think of Star Wars.

I could give no shits about the next CoD or Battlefield. In my opinion ever since Bad Company 2 Battlefield has just been on a landslide. CoD hasn't been interesting to me since MW, and while AW is an improvement I still don't play it much. I've never played Fallout but I know a lot of people love that series. Rainbow 6 should be good, but I'm looking forward to The Division more out of the two Tom Clancy games. The new Batman is looking good, as is Dying Light and Uncharted 4. I'm equally as hyped for 2015 as you, but just for different reasons. My most hyped movie for 2015 at this point is American Sniper followed by SW7.

Decided to pick up far cry 4 and wow it is really fun. I love the environment. Only thing is stuttering when your graphics are on very high or ultra. Multiplayer and co op is really awesome. especially co op if you find someone who is not retarded. Anyone play this on pc wanna hook up?
12/4/2014 2:11am Edited Date/Time 12/4/2014 2:14am
Not sure if it's the same thing as stuttering but I have had to lower my settings to Ultra to maintain my fps. It seems that the PC port could've done with an extra layer of polish. I get 60 fps in most areas but every now and then the frames will drop into the 40s or 30s for apparently no reason, which is mildly irritating. Even that "Totalbiscuit" guy on youtube (who has dual 980s) reported running into the same problem. There are a couple of band aid fixes though. One involves altering a file (something to do with mouse acceleration I think - though personally I just use my 360 controller anyway) but another involves going into the nvidia control panel and altering a power management setting, and for me this did help some. The 770 is still a good card so you shouldn't have to sacrifice too much on performance.

As far as the actual game goes, still really enjoying it! The Pagan Min guy is very well written imo, I'm looking forward to the inevitable showdown. Also, the buzzsaw gun.... I can't use anything else now. So much fun.

I just found out today that there is a cool easter egg. Start a new game, and when you sitting at the table with Pagan and he leaves, wait exactly 13 minutes and he will come back and take you to place the ashes and then the game ends. Literally no joke.

just picked up Far Cry 4 the other day and have been unable to stop playing it. it's so similar to 3 in all the good ways and expands in so many more ways. i'm really liking all the side-mission type activities, grappling is awesome, the buzz helicopter is the best vehicle to ever be put in any game ever, the guns are diverse.

the only think i'm not fond of is some of the animals are fucking bullet sponges... i swear those coyote things take 20 bullets a piece with a standard SMG.

killing big game is pretty easy, a couple grenade shots or an RPG and boom, dead.

i wish the bow-arrow was a little tougher. it seems odd that i can kill a human with the recurve bow in one shot, no matter where i hit them... but to drop a wolf i have to have 2 really well placed arrows.

anyway, love this game
