Cleaning Engine Cases

Usually i just use some brake cleaner and a scotch brite and or SOS pad but the cases im cleaning are super dirty and that way will take way to long.

Is there any quicker way that does not invlove soda blasting or bead blasting? i have some ultra brite aluminum cleaner on the way for cleaning welding surfaces will that help? i had an idea to soak the cases in viniger overnight (if anyone has done the coins in vinigar thing you will know what i mean) but would that damage cases?

Any input is helpful thanks

the aluminum alloy that cases are made out of does not react favorably to acid. (although the jug and head do) I believe it has a high tin content which produces a black byproduct during the reaction.

the best solution, I believe, (if you don't want to media blast them) is to soak them in a somewhat pH neutral degreaser, then use a brass bristle brush. Either by hand or on a rotary tool. Exhibit A:

I used a degreaser not a powerful one on my YZ125 motor. Using a toothbrush just was not enough for me there is still dirt imbedded in the metal. Either try an SOS/scotch bright pad or the brass brush. I used a brass brush to clean the aluminum frame on my 250f it left some black stuff but it washed right off with water. Could try using WD40 with the SOS pad also.
