I already have this bike with a 280 big bore. Probably spent a little too much on it already but is there a thing I should know about this bike year in particular?

They're awesome bikes once jetting correctly. Keep an eye on the accelerator pump timing and cleanliness. They sometimes can get touchy.

That 280 kit should keep you off the limiter, which is good.

Those bikes I felt gave up a little power to the Honda at the time, but were far superior when it came to reliability.

My gf at the time that had an '06 LOVED the '07 and newer CRF master cylinder on it - she said it made the brakes feel much much better.

My bike still gets revved out because I'm used to riding in high rpms from my 125. It's just over rev I don't hit the rev limiter in the air much though.

What cam is in it? I went with the 270 kit for my CRF, and then the stage 2 hot cam. Damn does it pull everywhere now.

I have a hot cam. I'm not sure on the specs I'd have to ask my mechanic.

Change that external oil line every 40-50hrs, even if it doesn't look bad, and cam chains wear out rather quickly on this motor also. On the wire that plugs into the ignition coil, pull back the black wire protector to expose the two wires that go into the wire connection and use Yamabond to waterproof it, and make sure there is slack in that wire and not zip tied tightly to the frame.

Thanks for the tip man! I'm at 10 hours on my bike right now so I'm good.

My 2008 had 138 hrs on it when I sold it, buyer was still pleased a year later change. Here is what I did for maintenance;
oil 3-5 hrs
change oil filter and clean/inspect strainer every second oil change
valve shim checked and adjusted as reqd at 25hrs
topend at 50 hrs (including cam chain)

Very reliable engine. Use the fork seal part number for 2008 year, the 2009+(I think) have less stiction and are more likely to leak. I use a YZ250 2 stroke air filter cage which I use with Notoil filters in order to do away with backfire screen.
