“…..concern about fructose is based primarily on studies in which rodents and people consumed huge amounts of the molecule—up to 300 grams of fructose each day, which is nearly equivalent to the total sugar in eight cans of Coke—or a diet in which the vast majority of sugars were pure fructose.”

Not unrealistic as there are about 5 1/2 cans of soda in a 2 liter bottle and I see kids all the time drinking at least one a day. Add that to the other crap and holy hell,, I'm glad I'm not their pancreas.

It's amazing what the body can process.

This may be working great for them NOW, but I am curious to see how they will be 20 years down the road.

Look at RC for example. He is so unhealthy. it is sad. I wonder if being on such a strict diet while riding messed with his mind, and now all he wants to do is eat everything in sight? I am not joking here. Strictly limiting your diet can play games with your psyche down the road.

I think RC might have had other things keeping him slim besides diet. Besides, look at his whole family, they are all naturaly "big" people. Look, when he raced 125's he was always chubby, and that dude was doing 30's in the heat all summer long.

My apologizes to the OP for the continued thread drift.
Well that's the old 2004 study he is using to make his point in his article

Bray GA, Nielsen SJ, Popkin BM. Consumption of high-fructose corn syrup in beverages may play a role in the epidemic of obesity. Am J Clin Nutr 2004; 79: 537–543. | PubMed | ISI | CAS |

It seems flawed in Some ways because it doesn't take into consideration, we are consuming more overall calories than we did in the 70's plus most people have become more sedentary or less active etc

That particular study is discussed more here

International journal of obesity 2013

http://www.nature.com/ijo/journal/v37/n6/full/ijo2012157a.html

And for people who say there's often a conflict of interest

http://www.nature.com/ijo/journal/v38/n5/full/ijo201432a.html

You can make up your own mind of course, discover what seems plausible
But I would just be carefull with people or articles with very extreme opinions that's usually cause for a red flag
Look at things in a critical way, but at the same time keep an open mind

He is not a natural athlete, that why what he did is so incredible...He lived training year round, all heart ... focus.
F... all the PED B.S. Excuses for the guys who got their ass kicked by him... After 4 ---4 fing years of James and the rest

That's another interesting subject

Following a very strict diet plus doing hours of cardio wreeks havoc on your metabolic rate
If you do not recover your metabolic rate your pretty much setting yourself up for a lot of weight gain

This is why 95% of people who follow a diet end up regaining their weight plus most get even fatter
When you've been calorie restricted for a long time your metabolic rate is supressed and your body is primed for fat storage
This all has to do with your body own hormones like leptin, ghrelin and a whole bunch more

I myself did bodybuilding and powerlifting(still do)in those circles they reverse diet to recover their metabolic rate and prevent excess weight gain post contest

Metabolic adaption to weight loss
http://www.jissn.com/content/11/1/7/abstract

Think of it as increasing the amount of food(calories) you can eat slowly and gradually over time without gaining much weight(fat)

And I agree with what your saying making certain foods off limits , will in the end not be good for your mental health
In my opinion it promoties eating disorders, binge eating, feeling guilty when you eat something that your not allowed to

I agree with this binge and guilt. If you are going to cheat, own it. I get a lot of my research from Donna Gates and Dr. Mecola.

http://www.mercola.com/

http://bodyecology.com/

I eat foods that make me "feel" good. If you eat a food and have no energy after eating it, question your food.

When I eat muscle (I only eat fish), seeds, or nuts, I mix them with an alkalinic food. American diets are far to acidic. Many of my foods are raw, I prefer the benefits of live enzymes in foods. I am also very conscious of the costs of my dining decisions.

Let me ask all -

How can YOU lower cost of health care?
How can YOU limit pollution (hint driving less or two stroke dirt bikes are not the biggest issue - lying leftist commies)?
How can YOU limit aging?
Why does the US government subsidize corn, sugar, wheat, soy?

When you eat a caged corn fed beef, what impact does that have you, the animal, the environment, fuel?

Conscious decisions - take ownership. That said, the Americans who take care of themselves should NOT be picking up the bill for those who do not care about their health. What is it, 33% of Americans are obese? WTF

When RC retired - he was done. Flat out said it.

I wonder whether RV will do the same - he's in damm good shape. That said, RV's wife is pretty damm good shape too.

Johnny 'O still trains with the best of them
