They changed certain parts in the movie that weren't in the book. The helicopter full of SEALs wasn't actually shot down right in front of Marcus like the movie depicted. If I remember correctly from the book (read it like 4 years ago), it was shot down by where Marcus and his team were dropped off at. Marcus didn't even know about the crash until after he was rescued. Also, the whole ending makes it seem like he was only in that little village for a night, but he was actually there closer to a week. However, the movie was very accurate as to the situation of the mission, the characters, and their deaths, which to me, is the most important part to get right. I also don't remember Lutrell mentioning needing to be revived after being rescued like they showed in the movie, but I could be wrong. It's been a while since I read the book, but those were the biggest differences I saw.
Yeah...
And in the book I don't believe the Taliban took him out to cut his head off either.
What they did do was go into the hut where he was recovering and smack him around a bunch and try to scare him.
The Villagers then moved him to a cave that had lots of ants in it.
Gave him an old bottle filled up with filthy water if I remember correctly.

I want to say that the book shared a couple of details that would have made the whole theater lose it and cry. The book said that when the marine that went on top of the rock to make the phone call (drawing a blank on his name) got shot, he kept calling for Marcus to help him but Marcus couldn't get to him. There was also something different about the dude that died on top of the ledge before the second drop. Don't recall exactly what it was.

I agree though, if it got Luttrell's sign off, it's a legit depictation of what happened.
Murphy was the one who made the call....
He was never a "Marine".
After he finished Pennsylvania State University he joined the Navy...he was never in the Marines.
He was accepted into a handful of really good law schools but declined to go and instead joined the Navy.
He graduated BUD/S Class 236.
Then he went to Army Jump School and completed SQT,SDV courses.
He earned his trident in July of 2002 and became a SEAL Operator.

Here is Class 236's graduation photo.
Back row on the far left is Murphy.

Yep.

Have you read his book "Service" yet?
It's a pretty good book also and talks a lot about other deployments he did, like in Iraq.
It's well worth a read also.

A funny story...when Marcus was going through BUD/S...
Well anyway he has a twin brother who's a SEAL which he always mentions in both his books.
Well they would switch out. Like his brother would show up and do a run or an evolution and the instructors didn't notice.
This was when he was in BUD/S.Sorta cheated....lol.
The instructors finally got word afterwards and they were almost kicked out.

I use this add-on from time to time.
http://www.downloadhelper.net
However,it does not work with that country unblocker program.
But it usually works for videos that I don't have to use the unblocker on...on many sites.

No I did not know he wrote another book.. I'll definitely check it out sounds pretty good! I just finished "American Sniper" Chris Kyle's story also an awesome book definitely worth the read!! It's not "lone survivor" caliber but it's definitely up there.. Basically just his story on day to day life on and off missions.. It's pretty badass!

Yeah...I read American Sniper some time ago. The dolphins & sea lion lol.
Iranians taking cheap pop-shots at them over the border. It's a great book with some good insight.
My favorite part was when he shot the beach balls. LOL

Another book you may like is... The Red Circle - it was written Brandon Webb- the instructor who trained CK & Marcus.
Brandon also runs SOFREP.com

Another good one is FEARLESS - The Adam Brown Story.
http://fearlessnavyseal.com
It's a sad story but shows you anything is possible.
The guy went from being a junkie to a Top Tier Operator.

This is also another really good book.
It's very sad story and a terrible accident.

Inside Delta Force - is also another good book.
It's older but a good book.

I took my son to see it last Sunday. It was sold out Friday and Saturday nights. There was total silence when everyone walked out. Respect and reverence I've never experienced after a movie.

Exact same when we left the theater. Just lots of people sobbing and silence otherwise.

It's one of those movies that you wish weren't based on real life events. Would have been a good movie if it wasn't based on what happened.

They will start showing it here on February 21st. I guess I`ll wait and see it on a big screen instead of some bootleg shitty quality over internet.

Act Of Valor was OK.
I'd give it a 8 on a scale of 1 to 10 movie wise.

The part where the Operator throws himself on a frag grenade and smothers it to save his teammates was interesting to say the least.I believe they got the idea from Mike Monsoor's actions in Ramadi back in 2006.
He did the same thing on a roof top to save his teammates and a couple Iraqi Operators.
It was a very heroic action.

This is real Mike Monsoor (pictured below in 2006).
