Thanks Zoom. I have never seen full results. Shaun Kelley and I entered 4 classes as team mates at Humble Yamaha. We won 3 expert classes.

I've also have the Gulf Coast Motorcycle News issue that has the story from this race. They got some great pics of Larry Hughes, that kid that won the 110 novice class and 5th in the 83 novice class. He had some great style on his XR-75! Seemed like a great kid. I wonder what every happened to him?

Larry lives here in the Houston area and his kids are involved in riding. He and I have been friends for over 30 years. He is the local Parts Unlimited sales rep. Great guy.

The bike Shaun rode in the 60 expert class was a YZ80 downsized to 60cc. Most exotic bike I had and have even seen. Our engine builder tore down a YZ80 motor and welded the stud holes on the cases. He relocated them to match up with the left side of a TZ125 road racer cylinder (twin cyl bike with separate cylinders). The left one did not have fines on the right side. He stroked the crank to hit 60cc's. We were lucky to have Jemco here in Houston so he matched a TZ125 pipe into upswept pipe. He ignitioned it like the the TZ and did same with carb. Ungodly fast. Shaun rode it in the NMA Nationals at Saddleback that year and the bike was protested and spent the weekend in impound. He lapped everyone except Flying Mike Brown on his factory Indian. Oh, and Shannon Kelley (Jr. minicycle) is the current Mr. Mary Lou Retton.

1974 was the first year NMA held the World Championship at Rio. They changed it to a national for the next 3 years, 75, 76 and 77. Then moved it to Ponca.

I'm thinking the '73 race was the "Kawasaki Challenge Cup" the day before an AMA national.
