I know you wont believe anything a cop says but that cop said they were looking for someone who committed a felony. Would you decide the cop wasn't out of line if you learned that the guy they were looking for was a murderer or child molester?

They patted her down but you don't know for certain that nothing is in there until you strip search someone. I'm not in law enforcement but I know that if someone refuses to change into their clothes they could be hiding something. Anyone who is homicidal or suicidal and comes to an ER has to turn over all their possessions and change into our clothes and be wanded with a metal detector because otherwise we have no way of knowing they are completely safe. It is for their own safety as well as everyone else's. The cops lost their jobs over this because of how it looked on the camera. In court though she won't get any money if they did exactly what they were trained to do. There is a reason that they are trained the way that they are. If I wore a go pro on a psych floor and posted it on YouTube lots of people would lose their jobs because of how what we do is perceived but the sad truth is that when people are arrested or institutionalized they give up their basic human rights and it's for their own safety as well as the safety of others. You have to consider the worst case scenario above anything else. Until she is strip searched you have to proceed with caution.

I guess the moral of the story so far is " people get the Police they deserve" and since most people here seem to be more than fine with the outrageous shit on display, everything will be just dandy - until they're on the wrong end of it.
For what it's worth the two "officers" in the original vid would be going to jail in Britain for an assault like that and the fat woman would have lost her job too.

All you guys who claim to hate "big government" come out and justify it when presented with images of it in action. Oh the irony.

P.S. Am I the only one who got a laugh at 10:04 on the vid', when the singer on the radio said "is everyone having fun yet?" Tongue

The guy was obviously hiding information about the suspect. If someone you know was raped or murdered I don't think you would get as pissed at someone who hauled someone in for refusing to answer questions about the suspect.

It really doesn't or shouldn't matter what the crime is though. I know it's difficult to remove emotion from any situation (obviously we're all human) but that is exactly what a Policeman must do. It's not his or her place to become emotional and thus further contribute to the drama of a situation. In fact quite the opposite. A good cop will try and diffuse a situation if possible and calm all concerned down - not ramp things up because "they" got personally irritated or offended. The job has no room for ego or self appointed so called justice. It has to be that way if you're going to wear that uniform.

Of course if a situation can't be salvaged and demands a strong response or even physical intervention, then yes OK, that must be applied (obviously the law must be upheld). But again, only as much as is necessary for the given situation. The Police in that first video especially clearly go way and beyond what is necessary.
