125 vs 250

He seems a few inches short, but he would have to try a 125 too see if he can seat on it. If he can't he could try a low seat. I recommend a 125 since its a big jump from a 125 4 stroke to a 250 2 stroke. But if hes a big guy, go for it. He can always downsize.

If he is new into the sport, I would recommend starting out on the 125. It sounds like it would fit him better and be a little less bike to handle starting out.

if he wants somthing fast and easy to work on i would say a 250 2 stroke. now as far as brand i like the 2003-2007 cr 250s and the 2005-new yz 250s

As far as maintainence cost the 2 strokes are going to be cheaper, yes they do have to be rebuilt more often but the are a third of the price when you do. As far as 125 or 250? A 250 may last a little longer than a 125 because they can be riden at a lower rpm and dosnt need as much clutch abuse. it depends on how hard he wants to ride, does he want to go to the track and be able to cruise for fun(250) or does he want to push and squeeze all the power he can out of the bike(125). I do agree with TrailDigger, moving from a Klx125 to a 250 will be alot to handle, but u can ride any size bike as long as you take time to learn the bike before you try "test your skills".

Sorry to hear about your injury. I did something similar once. Three days after i got a crf150r i was at the track, went off a jump sideways, and got ejected off into a tree an broke my arm.Find your owners manuel or get a friends, they have tips on storing your bike. Off the top of my head, drain all the gas out of it, then start it and let it run until it dies to burn all the gas out of the carb. fresh oil doesnt hurt, an exhaust plug is always good. Also make sure every inch is clean or the dirt that is left on it over time will stain the metal and may have to be sanded (like polishing) to get it off. I think i have heard to take the spark plug out get a teaspoon of oil and poor it in. then put the plug back in but dont put the wire back on, then kick the bike over a few time to coat the cylinder walls. When it comes time to ride again there is more but that will be another time.

i would definitly recomend the 125 . 250 4 strokes are a easy bike to ride but ther so much bigger and hevier . Also iv always thought you get alot faster quicker on a 2 stroke because you have to work that much harder to go fast .

Is this place turning in to Thumpertalk or what. Anyone that is currently riding a KLX 125 and is 5 foot nothing tall does not need a 250 two stroke. They are obviously young and relatively inexperienced. I have been seeing plenty of young kids lately at the track riding 250 two strokes, and all you can do is just shake your head and look away. They are so intimidated by the power of the bike they are riding that they just dawdle around the track at a snails pace. And if they were to twist the throttle out of a turn, I am sure they would fly off the back of it.
