With a "one use" start like the one this week it sure would be interesting to see a sand start.

Yep, would be interesting.

A Sand Whoops start would also be interesting. Smile

Back in the late 1980's when I was doing a lot of AX's....
There were some tracks that had whoops like 20 feet out of the gate.
Not real big or steep, but enough to get your suspension to react and throw you around if you were not standing & leaning Back & gripping the bike with your legs.

Most of the start is used only once per race and the part that is cut across could easily be smoothed out in a matter of a couple of swipes by a drag after the last rider goes past. Making a sand start possible without impacting the time constraints of the show.

Enough of an explanation Dave?

Hey guys, if you have a question you would like a professional rider to answer divert your questions to Braaap; he speaks on behalf of all of them.

And how the funk would you know that?

Oh, you purchased (dad's $) a pit pass and surveyed the pros yourself?

Or are you a pro yourself?

You're not a pro are you? How can you tell me what the pros are going to think of a sand start?

You think you know because you're 17 years old and never wrong?

one of those Wink

i grew up riding in northern Michigan which has some bitchin sand. anyone whose ever ridden a motorcycle in sand knows that a sand start would be f'kn retarded

surfaces i've had a bike in. creeks. both sand and rock based.... ponds ( dont ask ) volcanic rock, sand, mud, loam, clay , georgia clay, canadian black dirt, sugar sand, virignia sand................ pretty sure i have a good idea of what's a pain in the dick to ride in and can safely say that any pro would not be stoked to START in sand.

Riders would hate it today like they did then that day. It's hard to tell in the video, but it was damp and had a consistency of jello. I swear it looked like the whole jumps wiggled at times. If it had been dry, might have been better, but wet like that it's nasty.

If that track was made today, the bitching would be crazy.

By the way, remembered why they couldn't truck down better dirt, it was raining up north, so they'd have been trucking muck and/or wet clay which would never have set up in time.

Riders bitch when it's dry/slick too, I honestly wonder which they would prefer.
