So I'm thinking of doing a quick trip to A3. Would be flying in the morning of the race to John Wayne Airport(it being the cheapest) and leaving early Sunday morning.

My questions are would it be cheaper to get a cab to the stadium which a fare finder website estimated would be in the $40 range each way(realistic?). Or is the parking cheap enough that renting an economy car($40) and paying the additional fuel costs would be pretty much the same or less?

Also, are there any prohibited items outside of the usual weapons and glass you can't bring in a bag into the stadium?

Depending on where you stay I don't even know if it would be a $40 cab ride. If you rent a car it's also $20 for parking. I would probably just take a cab and not have to deal with the hassle of renting a car. Take a backpack full of snacks and water bottles, that way you don't have to pay a premium for everything at the stadium. Make sure to bring a warm jacket too; it's been pretty chilly lately (low 40's). Yes, I see that you are from CO and you are probably laughing at that. Have fun!

I'd rent a car ($30) for the day, stay at the Hilton (rooms still available for $118) that's less than a 1/4 mil from the stadium, and buy Erin Bates a drink after the race... at least that was how it went down for me last year Smile

Hilton Anaheim/Orange Suites

Plus, Emig, racers, and other industry folk, stay there. Parking is free, so that wipes out the $20 to park at the stadium.

Nice tip!

I parked in a parking lot outside the stadium near the highway for $5.00. Walked in through the train station and at the end had hardly any traffic to deal with.

I parked in the parking lot and had to wait over an hour to get out. Wife was pissed.

Park in private lot near the McDonald's. Eat before you go in and walk right after race. Parking is $10.00

Rent car, park in South lot near campers ($20), blend in, eat partiers' food and drink their beer. They will be too drunk to notice that they don't know you. Maybe you'll be invited into a trailer or RV for some fun.

One other thing. Are there good ticket deals to be had from scalpers early in the day or do they stay fairly high?

In past years that's been less of a problem, as A3 often had some empty seats. But the stadium only holds just over 45K, and this isn't most seasons. Wink

If you are not in a hurry, take the shuttle 1 way to a hotel address by A3 (you don't have to stay there). If you pick a nice one, you can tip the bellhop to take luggage. Your probably going to go to a hotel nearby to get a cab afterwards anyway, to go to your hotel. Never tried this but the shuttle driver told me they would also pick you up at a hotel and take you to another(just know the addresses, and with shuttles book asap). The shuttle I used was 23$ round trip from LAX, so John Wayne should be pretty cheap. Take the shuttle 1 way from real hotel back to airport. Just remember shuttles are slow, but you get a sightseeing trip.

Get a rental. You should be able to get very cheap rates on a weekend. Also, depending on where you stay you probably will not want to walk to the stadium. Also, getting a rental gives you the freedom do grab whatever you want for food or whatever else you might want to do. Get a ticket before you go if at all possible. I think that I got at ticket for A1 one year the day of the race.

You should buy your tickets now. There are not many seats left. Ticketmaster is having problems issuing tickets through their website, so call them and order them. Find the seats you want on their website and then call and order those exact seats. Worked for us last night.

I was going to buy my tickets for A3 when I was at A2, but people couldn't get their crap together and tell me if they were going or not. A lot of people were buying A3 tickets that day.

Sorry guys, shoulda been more clear when I brought topic back up. Got a flight, car and ticket. Just thinking about parking right now.

I had to wait on some stuff to get settled here and ended up booking a flight into LAX as it was cheaper. Renting a car for the day, and flight leaves super early Sunday morning so just driving back to airport after the race. A hotel would be a waste.

$20 dollar parking, take the cab. Or ask someone here to pick you up it's not that hard and close to the stadium.

On katella street across the street from the stadium there is a corporate parking lot that charges five bucks. I parked here and was on the freeway in less than five minutes. I showed up about 4:00pm and the lot was 25 percent full.

Parking is fine but the food is robbery. 9.50 for a medi soda and a bag of crackerjacks.

For years I've gotten there early for practice and parked across the street from the stadium on Rampart Street and just walked over. It's a little bit of a walk, but not bad at all and usually very little to no wait getting out afterwards. I park just beyond North Net Fire Training Center.
