Cool post bro but not really true.

I'm some dork from nowheresville Canada and I got to be a mechanic on two factory teams (and I'm def not a rocket scientist). Look at all the other Canadians and people from ALL over the world that are mechanics also. They aren't flat-billed wearing peeps. Sometimes you get what you deserve, not saying that in your case but just in a, you know, general sort of way.
I am curious can you set up a Bridgeport ? or diasassemble a motor ? No Disrespect so please don't take it wrong .

Motors can be re-wound, engines can be "diasassembled". Not sure about setting up a Bridgeport though.

Wait, your skill set includes changing tires, cleaning the shitter, and providing "mental support?" Who wouldn't want you on their team!?!? I mean seriously, a monkey could be trained to do those things, work on your people skills that is where you can separate yourself in a job like this, where a lot of people can satisfy the requirements.

This made me think of the column that Jack and Suzy Welch wrote in Fortune magazine a couple months ago:

Finally, and perhaps most pernicious because of its outsize influence, is the hostility toward business that radiates from the intellectual elite – the opinion leaders in journalism, academia and government. To them, business is rotten because it’s just so completely unfair. Otherwise, how do you explain the success of the party animal who lived down the hall in college? You know what we mean. With the intellectual elite, you have a group of people who, once upon a time, took their studies very seriously, ran their college newspapers and clubs and protested for social justice in their free time. After graduation, they took jobs where they felt they could fight the good fight, even if it meant financial sacrifice. That was all well and good until 10 or 15 years out, when they started hearing stories about the obnoxious loudmouths in their college dorms who majored in playing the angles and minored in beer pong. These “lightweights” (in their view) had, horrifyingly, struck it rich on Wall Street. And not by making the world a better place. No – simply by showing up and chumming around.

You sound young and like someone who hasn't yet realized what a shit hole place much of the world is. Don't take this to mean that you can't get ahead by working your ass off......but you're going to have to do it FOR YOUR SELF. It likely isn't going to happen in a corporate environment.

In the corporate environment you'll be smart and work your butt off and the guy who stands around BSing and drinking coffee with the boss will weasel his way into the management meetings and take credit for your work.
Astute observation with, unfortunately, accurate advice. No, life is not fair at times.

No one respects good shifter cleaning skills anymore. I wasted half my life and a fortune in training, just so it would get pissed away on this selfish industry.
I'm glad someone finally called them out!

I would wager a hundred bucks that 85% of the folks on this site couldn't spoon an MX tire off and on and in 10 minutes or less without pinching the tube.

Oops that is a mis spelled word, it is NOT a real word I am sorry to confuse you.

The correct spelling should have been "Disassemble" again I am sorry for the confusion.

Good point, however of the people who CAN change a tire, at a certain point who is better? You can either change it or not, and I highly doubt teams care if you can do it in 5 minutes or 10 so long as you have the tire when they need it. For general mechanic purposes I'd say that this guy is spot on, it is who ya know and who ya blow. Why wouldn't it be? Of course the guys in charge are going to want people they like and get along with around, not some dick who thinks being nice is kissing ass lol I'm just saying I think a job like that comes down to people skills, assuming you can actually do the job correctly, which a ton of people can

Bingo......

If you can do the job but you're a dick as the OP has presented himself to be....well you ain't gonna get the gig.

The motorcycle industry doesn't have a lock on that.

Those KTM mechanics know about good shifter cleaning/keeping them on skills.

That is the way of the world. All the stoners I knew in high school who skipped class and never did any homework are now living in big houses with lots of toys. You're nothing if you aren't a dealer or a snitch.

As far as the other shit goes, it is the motorcycle ghetto. Spend thousands on a useless toy and risk being crippled for life. Tell people you race dirtbikes and you might as well say that you are a reformed crack addict by their reaction. Ride through the rain and get cut off by some ipad jockey and what do you get out of it? At least second rate hockey players can get coaching jobs or make contacts in business.

Trust me, whoever thought I would not return is sadly mistaken. With all the clowns and humor on this site. I must say that for a first thread post I.definitely did get a rise out of the native. Its also a little disheartening and sad to.see all the free time that people have on here. Please allow me to go cry some more since my feelings are hurt. Sad

526, I.sure can. Its just a little unreal how people are on this site. I never personally bashed anyone yet people still took it personal. Sit n here in a shop full of heavy machinery. Just fired up a Kent 5620 lathe to turn down some cold rolled stainless into rear axles for a few HD. I have normal job unlike half these tools but if you had the option to do something you love and it was planned out I'm sure you would do.it too. I didn't take your? bad at all. You are the rare of this group by asking a normal question.

Really? Lol you come across as a kid one year out of high school, still full of dreams of how you think the world should be. You just described almost the entire working world, and quite possibly society in North America. People tend to be very self serving in our materialistic society, unless they are your close friends. I'll describe that, in the words of my very wise father. "You will meet a lot of people in life, who will become your acquaintances. FEW you will ever call friends". Let that sink in.
All I can say is, respectfully, get over it. Time to move on to your next dream to be broken. Take pride in the fact that if you give an honest days work for an honest days pay, that's rare these days. Just so you know, your bitching here will change nothing. I've bitched about truckin for 32 years, and every day it's the same fuckin shit. After a while you realise your breath shouldn't be wasted.

Scooter, after the "private message" he just sent me... ALL the answers to his original post can be found very easily. All he has to do is look in a mirror. Im pretty sure hes hoping I'll be at A1, me and my #4 from McD's he says. I can see it now.... 5 guys with black flatbill hats, black socks, yelling "come at me bro!"

amazing, you air things in a public forum, dont like the responses, and who do we think we are to respond. Which actually is a good question, but it never crossed his mind.

Lol. You are probably quite correct in your comment. I wanted to say as much, but I gave him the benefit of the doubt. Taking a hard look at yourself and realizing perhaps you need to make some changes is a difficult thing to do. "Recognising the problem is half the solution".
Let us know how your A1 trip goes. Laughing

I've driven through Bridgeport quite a few times on my way to Tahoe and sold a couple of basket cases, so I'm obviously qualified. Maybe if some of you insiders could introduce me to who to blow, I might have a shot at getting one of them job things instead of having to sell all my old jerseys and stickers on eBay. Mean sonsabitches!

Ps. I think Matthes' photography skills are still a little bit lacking, but since he obviously knew and blew all the right people he has Cudby and Hoppen to fall back on!

I'll leave this as short and as simple as possible. I've grown up in the industry as a consumer, supporter and contributer in many aspects from financial help, mecganical help and even mental support. Along the years I e established many contacts, friends and riders who have always seemed like good people initially. The one thing that they all have in common is that once they stop getting what they want you are useless to them. I wont drop names as I do.believe.in karma and this is a sport/industry where it def comes around. I've put myself out there so many times and in so many ways to try and be a part of a team whether it was changing tires, cleaning the shitter, whatever was needed and seems like my knee pads aren't thick enough or I don't fit the Dickie wearing rockstar image that teams are looking for. They d rather hire the box of.rocks that doesn't even have a passion for the sport but just a image that he/she is trying to live up.too. I can't say I'm over qualified but have a mentality like a sponge that absorbs all the info I.can and never walk around like a know it all like a majority of these tools do. I've even offered to serve as an intern just to.show.my skill sets and my desire to.want to be better day in and day out. Sorry guys, I wont let my girlfriend blow you just to get a chance. I do know that I will not.go e.up.and will one day get my chance and would/will never be like.these techs and employees for these teams that feel like they re gods gifts. What goes around comes around and I will be around one day and not be the 95% in the industry that feel they are rockstars. Christ, half these tools that go to the line with riders are simply professional "parts put-er on-ers" and don't know the.first thing about dissecting a motor or turning on a Bridgeport yet alone setting one up. Sorry for the rambling as I'm sure most of you wont get this far. I guess its not only true in the dating world about nice guys getting the shaft and going far. My passion and interest for the sport will never change and I will never allow someone or experiences change that but when I get there one day I will be the one reminding those "rockstars" to try and be a little humble and grateful that they are where they are as there are a vast amount of people who.have sacradiced a lot to be in that position and most never get there.
