Clutch won't engage

okay so I know theres other threads about this but none really seem to be the same issues i guess, So here goes, the clutch cable seems fine, theres resistence like normal, but, when i put the bike in gear and just try to push it with the clutch pulled in, she'll drag the back wheel like if I wasn't pulling in the clutch. A little history of the bike (2004 crf250f). The bike belonged to a friend and had been sitting for years due to a blown motor. I bought the bike recently and have put a new top and bottem end, new exhaust valves, new cylinder jug and other parts sooooo i dont know. Im thinking maybe i put too much oil, maybe didnt soak em long enough cuz he left the bike dry, or worst case scenario maybe i fucked up the internals when i split the cases. so i dunoany thoughts or comments would be greatly appreciated and just really want a little more knowledge before i go digging in the bike again.

After mating the cases and installing the shifting hardware did you check to see if it shifted through all the gears before final assembly? Rule 1 section mofo, make sure it shifts and your countershft sprocket moves like it should. I had an issue with my trans do to me putting a thrust washer in the wrong spot and mine would act fine until put in gear then it would lock up. I caught this waaaaaay before being totally assembled though. (still sitting on the bench)

Also is it like that in 5th gear or will it roll? Mine don't like to roll in first either when the bike is cold. Hard to tell from this side of a computer, good luck.

thanks for the info, the bike shifts through the gears okay, and the fifth gear thing: it will roll most of the time but sometimes when I have just put it in fifth, I can feel the motor trying to turn over. Could it just be that its been sitting for so long? (since 09ish)

I will open up the clutch on monday and check PK27Racing
