Thanks for that tax calculator. I'd save over $36,000 with Romney, and only $5800 with Obama. Gonna save over $28,000 with Romney in office.

About. Sole proprietor of my LLC. Commissions on a huge project I put into production are starting to come in, and will hit full steam next year.

Actually, it's likely that won't happen, at least not with that amount. To date, the money coming in has been good, but definitely not great, and I have been claiming it as income, while using as many write offs as possible. I have my CPA looking at options for me as the revenue increases. And, truth is that the big money won't hit for about another 3 years, as production is just starting and there's the typical sales ramp-up/market acceptance thing. But, my objective is to turn this business into something that will let me travel the world, and it's finally starting to look good after working on this for 10 years. Been a long road with a lot of work. Definitely not done, either. I'm estimating about another 8 years and then hopefully I can make my move out of here.

I've had two businesses hit the shitter, one due to supplier issues and the other due to the economy. It's tough to keep them going at times and sad to have the pull the plug when you know that the end is inevitable. I hope to one day start another and keep it afloat long enough to just make "good" money.

It's nice to see someone make good in this economy.

No doubt it usually isn't easy. I've tried several different businesses, lost about $80K of my own money, never claimed bankrupcy, and still plug along. This one looks like a good deal, and I'm still working on development of several products on the side, in addition to my day job and doing some contract engineering work. I'd estimate that only about 5% of the products I've been involved in developing every make it anywhere. The success rate is that low.

My father instilled this work ethic in me, not by saying anything, but by example. He's one of those European immigrants who came here shortly after WWII (in order to escape the Russians taking over his country), educated, unable to speak fluent English, with a few bucks in his pocket. Our family knew a Slavish family in Bethlehem, PA, and they took my dad in as he got on his feet first as a welder/fabricator, then as he learned English, he got a job working for the Bethlehem Steel as one of their plant production engineers. The guy never expected money from anyone but himself, never asked for any kind of help, and earned every damn thing he had. I think that generation is fading away in this country, being replaced by those who feel entitled, for whatever reason. I wish Johnson never enacted any of the social programs he did. I firmly believe it has weakened America.
