Yesterday I tested my new cooling vest for the first time in a race siituation. I search for a long time to find out what would be the best way to stay cool while raceing. There are a few options out there. Most use ice packs. These are no good for us. To cold at the start. You can actually get frost bite on your skin. Also they melt to quick. There is evaporating vests but if its humid there not very effective. What I tried was a vest with 4 gel inserts made of some natural material that stays 58 degrees for 2 hours. You put them into the fridge or ice water and in a hour or so they are hard. Then I took them out about a half hour before the moto and they started to melt and get pliable. It turns into jell as they melt. They always stay at 58 degrees. the vest has enough padding to act as a roost protecter under your jersey. I also got the hard hat cooler and mounted it into my helmet. The results were amazing. Waiting on the starting gate I was so comfortable. during the race I never felt hot at all. Now the down side is they are a little heavy if you run all the inserts. 4lbs ish. But ill tell you once on I never noticed the weight at all. I have not tested them for 35 minutes yet. But 15 minutes of racing and the jell isn't even close to thawd out completely. These things are amzing I can't believe I raced all these years suffering threw the heat. Hopefully we get people trying and perfecting these devices.
