If this is your argument there isn't much point in continuing. A motorcycle accident is just that, an accident. Would you consider what the guy did at the theater an accident?

What I am saying is, some people like to ride motorcycles, all different kinds of motorcycles. They don't "need" motorcycles, they ride them for "fun". Some people like to collect and shoot guns, all different kinds of guns. They don't "need" guns, they collect and shoot them for "fun". I don't collect and shoot guns but why do I have any more right to tell those people who do that they can't do that any more than they have a right to tell me I can't buy motorcycles anymore because they are dangerous or because they are noisy, or because they pollute the environment?

As far as what the guy did at the theater being an accident, no, it was not an accident. It was a carefully planned action that would have been carried out regardless of what type of weapon/tool he had at his disposal to do it with. Do you think otherwise? Do you think if there were no guns on earth he wouldn't have used some other method for killing a lot of people? Hell it would have been easier to hijack a dump truck and drive it right through the side of the building taking out many more people than he did. If you think banning these things are somehow going to prevent a deranged person like this from carrying out their sick and twisted fantasies you yourself are living in a fantasy.

This guy killed almost as many with a knife. Damn knives! We need some knife control before this shit catches on over here. You can bet he'll be dealt with quick (and probably in public for all to see) while Batboy sits comfortably in jail for the next 60 years.

Why is the Colorado shootings a subject for discussion here? Since the majority(?), certainly the loudest contingent, of Americans insist on their constitutional "right to bear arms" then surely this sort of thing is just an unpleasant and enevitable side-effect.

No matter how gun appologists like to point to other weapons like knives or baseball bats as potential alternatives, the one thing that cannot be denied is that the sole porpose of a gun is to KILL.

The US is a gun obsessed country and the media is helping to drive this. Try watching an action movie, police drama or science fiction on TV and just count how many do not involve somebody drawing a gun/weapon at least once. Personally, I think that this is an unheathy trend in recent years.

The motorcycle was invented to provide transportation. The assault rifle was invented to kill in masses. If he had a single shot revolver I pretty sure there would be fewer killed.
As I have stated before, I'm not against guns, just making it harder to get them, fully automatic ones to be exact, and safer storage of them.

This is a debate that will go on for a lifetime, I'm just saying maybe it's time to look at a new approach, the old, combat gun violence with more guns may not be the best solution.

I think we can all agree that every one of us, gun advocate or not, would enjoy taking a few shots at Michael Moore.

And had he been shooting the place up with a simple shotgun and buckshot no telling how many would have died and been injured.

The idiot needs to be made an example of. Plain and simple. Instead, he'll be coddled and told everything will be okay since he obviously suffered from temporary insanity.

Getting a gun in the US will always be simple for a criminal. Hell, in other parts of the world it's even simple for a fucking monkey to get a gun. A FULLY automatic gun at that!

I know this is a huge can of worms to open, but I work alongside Americans in my place of work, All great people, and when I travel to the USA, I have never had a bad experience. I don' t understand why you can't have some gun control, and why you all feel so unsafe without a gun. Most Canadians don't own guns, and we feel safe without them. You have 10 times our population, yet have 800 times the gun fatalities per year ( I read this in an article).

I'm not suggesting getting rid of all your guns, just maybe putting some restrictions on the sale, and storage of them. Here it is such a pain in the ass to get one, most say fuck it. I'm not suggesting that either, but do you really need a fully automatic assault rifle to protect your family?
Here they have to be kept locked in a safe, and ammunition in a separate secured location.
What you're not understanding is that these restrictions only hurt law abiding citizens, In no way will a criminal follow these laws or restrictions, Do you trust your government so much as to give them another inch?

No law would have prevented the movie theater shooting

We would not be a free country without the guns we have, I believe that 100%, You should read a history book about how dictators come to power, And what the first thing they do is

If assault weapons are ever banned, There will be assault weapons made in garages and basements all over the country

Does anyone happen to know what special laws that criminals would follow? I realize that criminals by definition don't follow laws but Moore must feel that they do. Must be very special laws.

Michael Moore is a complete idiot.

Gun control activists seem to always crawl out of their holes when a tragedy like this happens. They stay completely silent any other time when a gun protects a family from a criminal.

The basic foundation of gun control is based on the idea that criminals will obey the law. Umm... Really? That makes sense.

Also, like someone above me said, if you look at the most evil dictators in the history of the world, the first thing they did was take away guns from the country's population.

Look at the statistics. The more guns there are, the less crime there is.

Also, one thing to consider. If two people break into my house and all three of us have guns, I have a decent chance of defending myself. If two people break into my house and all three of us have knives, I have a much lower chance of defending myself. Or worse yet, if two men break into a house with a woman inside, it would be MUCH better for all three to have a gun instead of all three have a knife.

Criminals and psychopaths will find a way to kill people one way or another. Every government should allow the law abiding citizen a chance to defend themselves.

I think what most people dont understand is it hard to legally purchase any type of firearm. For pistols they have back round checks you have to go through then most of the time the have a 72 hour wait period before you can pick the gun up. For huntung rifles you can usually take them home the same day but you still have to wait around for hours for the back round check. Say i wanted a silencer for one of my pistols which i tried to do but gave up because its such a joke you have to pay a bunch of money fill out some paper work send it off then if your lucky in about 12 months there is good chance they will say you cant have one. But i can talk to some shady people i know and go over to east St. Louis and have one in my hands today. Thats pretty much how it goes for full auto guns to. That is the problem if were a criminal its just a whole lot easier to get guns not sure of any laws that are going to fix that.
