Anyone here use Vuze?

Im trying to learn how to use/download torrents.

My friend recommended Vuze. But its a bit confusing for me. And finding a detailed tutorial for beginners, that spells every step out, is not an easy task. I looked everywhere yesterday.

Anyone here got experience with it and want to walk me thru the process?

Were you downloading from home? Would it make a difference if I were to download from a public location such as a coffee shop?

They had me dead to rights. I was uploading movies for 3 days while I was out of town. Fucking was infected with a virus that would restart my box at random. Utorrent starts when the box does.

What are the templates you are referring to?
1. Download and install utorrent or another torrent program
2. Download the torrent you want from thepiratebay, isohunt, etc
3. Open the torrent with utorrent and select the files you want to download
4. Once complete view the file usually in My Documents/downloads at least in utorrent

Thanks for not explaining what templates you are referring to. I think you are just referring to the torrents. I don't know anything about Vuze. Just use Utorrent and following my instructions.

I thought I did explain. I said I wanted the torrent templates from isohunt, piratebay, and bttorrent. And since you are recommending it, I want utorrent as well.

Chief, a simple explanation of torrents is that they're small files which point the torrent software to the places where it can get the real file you want.

Let's say you want to download the movie "Jaws". You do a search on either one of those sites mentioned in this thread (Piratebay or bttorrent), or you can simply go to Google and search "Jaws torrent". You go to one of the torrent sites. You'll click on "download torrent". Your computer downloads the torrent file (not the movie itself). Your torrent software (uTorrent) will open if you double click that torrent file. The torrent software will then go to the right place to download the actual movie "Jaws". It will download the movie to your hard drive.

No prob. It is kinda strange at first. I didn't get it until I tried it. I think what it's doing is that "you" aren't physically downloading any pirated software or movies. "You" are only downloading a small file that is public domain. So, it might be a legal work-around, but that's just my guess.

Make sure you've installed your torrent software (uTorrent) first before getting those torrent files.

A few things to watch out for:

I'd use the sites recommended in this thread and not simply Google like I said. There are some sites out there that aren't good, some that try to sell you stuff, and I'd imagine some that could screw up your computer.

If you're running a PC, make sure you have good virus protection.

Always click on "download torrent". Some sites will give you an option to watch a movie directly, if it's movies you're after. I'd suggest not doing that.

And, watch yourself. It's pretty obvious that the media industry is tightening down on this activity. I know one good torrent site that voluntarily shut down because of the heat. I'd imagine there are more.

Vuze used to be one of the better clients when it was called Azures, but they updated it and turned it into Vuze and it became a big pile of crap that has all sorts of shit you dont even need (or want)

Grab uTorrent, it is just a basic client. Once installed just grab the torrent file you want and open it in uT. Choose where you want the file to be saved and let her run. You might need to be patient, as some torrents take awhile for the file to get propagated and enough users to "host" before the speed increases.

You might also want to look into something like Peerguardian that blocks all the "bad guys" out looking for torrent users. Google it, it is just a basic little prog that runs in the background when you are using uTorrent.

Also, as in most programs. when installing uT, (it might be in settings one it is installed) choose "do not run when windows starts up" So that the prog is not running ALL the time, only when you open it.

I'm familiar with Vuze, so I'm not positive you'll see the term "seeders" like you do in Vuze (although I imagine you will). What happens, at least with Vuze, is that after downloading whatever file you were after, the program will continue to run, and you'll become a "seeder". What I think is happening is that you become a source for that file for others to download. You can turn this off, at least with Vuze you can.

Some sites (maybe Piratebay does it) will have multiple download options. They'll have comments on those individual download threads. Read those, and you'll have an idea about what you're getting.
