just picked up an 06 RMZ 450 for 750$

the guy i got it from bought it from a friend who barley rode it (paints still on the side covers) apparantly the guy was a squid and could barley ride,,
the original owner had the top end apart and didnt tighten the cam cover when he reassembled it..the kid i got it from rode it for a few minutes before he figured it out..needless to say it needs a new head...

everything else looks good..i figure for another grand i can get it dialed..

im coming off a yz125 for mx and a kx250 for offroad...ive been fighting getting a thumper but the track i ride is a 450 track with deep loam and big uphill jumps and im too big/unskilled for the 125..theres a couple jumps that even really really fast kids can barley jump on 125s...

ive been wanting an rmz but i was looking for something 08 and newer..

is there anything that i need for the 06 while im building it? plans are just to get the motor together and get the suspension revalved...there arnt allot of suzukis around here so i dont know anybody thats had one...

anybody with experience with 06's have anything good to say about it?? is it halfway decent or should i just part it out and try to make my $ back?? its got a 4speed right?

thanks for any suggestions you guys have

I'm pretty sure that the 06 rmz450 would over heat and leak coolant. Best bet is to drain the coolant and switch out with engine ice, upgrade the water pump and also check the top of the cylinder for flatness, and new head gasket.

Here's a pic of my old 05 RMZ 450.... orig owner, only needed to replace a bent shift fork.

--- great bike, the 4 speed is great w/ a 50 tooth sprocket. 07 Rads bolt right up/ look better
--- slightly higher compression piston, stage 1 hot cam, flex-jet fuel screw, and full c/f Yosh---- Ran great
----- If I still had it, I would drop a RM 250 motor in it w/ a 300 kit.... just sayn'

hah i just checked the vins kid sold it to me as an 06 but its an 05...i was looking for the hotstart and realized its on the carb..it was about to start pouring rain and the head was off with a rag over it so i loaded it in my truck asap...either way should be a fun bike and for 750 i dont think i can go wrong..bore looks good and everything else looks decent...
