cr250 chain noise?

Edited Date/Time 4/3/2012 5:35pm
This isn't another dumb thread about people who have worn out sprockets and chain. My bike is a 2004 cr 250 and it makes makes a noise under power like the chain is rubbing something. I have a brand new chain, sprockets, chain guide and i replaced bottom roller because it was worn. the chain slide is within spec, it says 5mm or .2 thosandths. I dont know what it could be. should i buy a nice chain slide and a top roller too?? The bike has always done it, and its very frustrating. Also, there isn't a jerking or anything like that, its very smooth just has noise coming from the chain.

You answered your own question. It sound like it's just normal chain noise. Think about it, The chain makes noise as it travels over the sprockets, it makes noise when it travels over the swingarm slider, it makes noise when it contacts the roller and it makes noise when it goes through the chain guide.

No, its not like that. I've riden other cr 250s yz 250s rm 250s 450s and none of them make this noise.

Are you sure that the chain is not too loose? Sounds like the chain may just be a little loose?

Well, the only other things it could be would be a mis-aligned wheel, wheel bearings, trans output shaft bearing (countershaft), or the clutch or even a mis-aligned brake caliper.

Factory chain slider or aftermarket?
My CR250 has an aftermarket slider, and the chain noise is really loud. Loud enough that with a paddle tire I spent an hour thinking the rod was trying to punch a hole through the cases until I figured out it was the chain. Under part throttle you could hear it from 30 feet away.

My chain slider is bone stock and still in spec. I bought a aftermarket chain guide because the stock one was bent. That might be what it is. Its very annoying at any rate haha. I just replaced my wheel bearings i just redid my top and bottom end, i put a new crank replaced all bearings. Everything is perfect and in spec, maybe its the after market chain guide. It only does it in high rpms when the most tension is on the chain, but like i said you can't feel any loss of power or anything, its super smooth. its just so load you can hear it over the motor in high revs.

Depends what aftermarket product you have?, I put TM designs on all my bikes, bulletproof, but quite a bit noisier than the stock stuff, like said above chain adjusted properly, and it takes a few rides to get used to the noise, lol, I let a friend ride my bike and heard the same noise it was the chain and aftermarket chain guide. But i can tolerate the noise for a good product.

Im thinking that maybe the countershaft bearing is going out? Under acceleration the noise starts to go away?

bingo! just had ours let loose. only had 30 hrs on the bike and my son was complaing of this same issue, I thought it was the loewr bracket guide but tranny blew apart. drain oil and check very closely for particles, wish I would have.
