Just in from Rome, for all our "confined to a chair" friends, this man is an inspiration. Here's the Tweet. (OK, so his English is a little weak)

This dropped to page-2 so fast, I guess most of the myopics here have absolutely no idea who Alex is, or they think it's normal to slip into the cockpit of a race-car with two functioning legs...and being pulled from the car leaving your legs inside the wreckage. Guess I over-estimated everybody.

Alex is a hero to many in the racing world, a story - life that most would never have the heart to be able to even come close to matching.

A reminder to those who've forgotten....

Here's a bit more most don't know .... just an inspiration to all.

Zanardi is and always was a hero to me. To overcome what he has is superhuman as it is with most traumatically injured people. that was one of the gnarliest crashes in all of motor racing.

It was not Zanardi's turn to die. Both legs were severed. By the time they got him to the helicopter, he had no recordable blood pressure and had lost 75% of his total blood volume. Maybe that's why he came back with an incredible love for life and an unstoppable competitive spirit that would allow NO challenge to defeat him.

Whether it was learning to walk all over again, competing on the hand-cycle, wheelchair, slipping back into an open-wheel car to complete 13 laps and logging speeds that would have qualified him 5th for that weekend's race, or going on to score wins in the World Touring Car championship, the man is a living, "walking", testament to the human spirit.

As for your comment, Ron, I have no problem with this thread ending up on page 2, or 3, or deeper in the deck...just as long as a whole bunch of people find it and read it. I just hated to see it leave page 1 so fast when I knew it was getting bumped down by discussions of colors of power bands, used wrecks on Craig's List, cleavage and butts (not that there's anything wrong with that), and, for the 10,000,000th time, 2-stroke vs 4-stroke. I just wanted to share a good news story about an amazing man. There aren't a lot of Alex Zanardis and David Baileys out there. People like them should be celebrated.

I can remember watching that race when the accident happened. Horrible.
Good for him to get back racing again.
