Did that get your attention? Sorry dudes.

Here's my small dilema - I snapped the heads off two of my bar clamp screws. (damn it. damn it. damn it).

Anyway, I have in the past drilled into a broken screw until it fractures and simply clean out the broken pieces from the threads. What do I do if it doesn't break and I end up drilling all the way through? (that hasn't happened - I'm stating it in anticipation). Is there a better method for doing this to get the desired result? I'm trying to avoid buying new bar clamps. A. Motosport.com customer service rep was awesome enough to ship me replacement bolts, so i would like to "fix' it vs. replace it.

Thanks in advance for your time. I should have read about torque wrenches before using one. LOL.

You can try Sears, they have all kinds of custom extraction tools / bits designed for things like this. They might have something.

Holy crap! A reverse drill bit? How do you guys know this stuff? Do I go to a place like Lowe's and ask one of the peeps for that? I hope it is that simple. LOL.

X2... Yea just take your time..But that will do the trick.. And if the threads are messed up just get a tap and re tap the threads..

Doubt Sears has left handed drill bits. Find an ACE Hardware store. Just make sure you have a reversible drill!Wink

Right. I've been researching a "bit" now...lol.

This is what I understand: Left handed drill bit. Drill into the broken screws in "reverse". sometimes this alone snags the screw and backs it out. If not then i will get an extraction bit. If that doesn't work - a kitten must die!!!

Those things should come out pretty easy with a simple bolt extractor. The bolts are not seated in the bar clamps. The head of the bolt is what secures everything together... which is why they snapped Smile Those things don't need to be that tight. Invest in a good torque wrench. If you could get your fingers on the remaining bolt shaft, it would screw right out... hence the bolt extractor.

Bar clamp bolts are usually not corroded/seized, so they usually turn easily. If the broken bolt is flush with, or protruding from the lower bar mount, I would use a sharp chisel and hammer to get the broken bolts turning out.
