CBO estimated the following costs for an Iraq war:

Initial deployment of troops: $9 billion to $13 billion
Conducting the war: $6 billion to $9 billion per month
Returning forces to US: $5 billion to $7 billion

yep,another waste of money..mars is 95% co2..and where that landing is 100 degrees below 0..no global warming...
I do believe the hubble telescope is a worth while exspenditure..seeing the universe is awesome

$1.8 billion isn't totally a waste. The project does employ people, and there is a possibility of us actually inventing or advancing technologies.
